My only suggestion would be, if you select the Pen, you do NOT want a room with balcony. The balcony rooms are in the central part of the hotel, and the view of the river is really not a good as the regular rooms. Something to do with the curvature of the building. So... IMO stay at the Pen and don't ask for a balcony room!

Thank you everyone for the help. Of course, I still have not decided; yesterday it was the Pen, today it is the FS. Such difficult problems, right? Right now I am double booked, so we'll see.

One more plug for the Penn- my wife loves riding the hotel boat to the skytrain- it what she looks forward to whenever we are in BKK.

split your time and then tell us what you like best... many have done that

rhkkmk, That is a great idea; I often do that when I travel. I'm contemplating that option. Thank you. I also might do a few days in BKK, then Chiang Mai for a few days, then back to BKK for one or two nights, in which case I will definitely try at least two of my three choices.

If you stay at two different places, then you will get a feel of two different areas. When I was staying in hotels in Bangkok, I would always leave the Four Seasons to the end and stay at either one or two different hotels before ending my stay at the Four Seasons. It was like visiting new friends, but then finally going home. Smiles.

Greetings fishskis and congrats on having some sweet hotel choices. Like you and others, I've had the privilege of staying at all three over the years. My (our) last stay at the Mandarin Oriental was quite some time back; always a pleasure at that class operation. And, the last Peninsula stay was this past Valentine's Day - if so inclined, my latest review of the Peninsula is on my profile page.
Now, as for the Four Seasons, most happy to report the property was as fine as ever this past week for a brief Bangkok business trip. I checked out of the FS yesterday morning before flying back home to Singapore via SQ973 J (which was also as fine as ever). It had been more than awhile since I had stayed at the Four Seasons for meetings and as alluded to above, I was welcomed back like family. (My earliest FS business stays were back in the day when the property was called The Regent.) This particular stay entailed a deluxe view room with executive lounge access. Perfect for my business purposes. Upon the in-room check-in, I was presented with the same particular tea service I always enjoyed with FS arrivals in Bangkok. They maintain good files and memories. Same great pool for very early morning laps before work. If the esteemed Fodorite 'eks' sees this post, rest assured your favourite Bangkok pool remains most accommodating for early exertions. Wonderful to be back at the BKK FS for meetings, as the property is exceptionally convenient for work. Scheduled to return later next month for more of the same. Great staff and friends, and can assure you and all, the deluxe view rooms have had a bit of an appreciated touch-up since my last visit. If you have the time and motivation, staying at two different properties (and locations) is great fun. Hard to go wrong with those hotels. (And for a future visit, can also highly vouch for a little riverside resort called The Siam. Took advantage of some soft opening rates and it was memorable.) Wherever you stay, savour your times in The City of Angels. Signing off from a fine Saturday in Singapore. As some of you may know, that always thrilling (and loud) Formula One circus is in our city-state this weekend. Never a dull moment in SIN. Fly in sometime, Fodorites (and you know the airline). Warm weekend wishes to all, macintosh (robert) ... Singapore Airlines, You're a Great Way to Fly ... |
I also first started staying at the FS when it was The Regent, Four Seasons, about a decade ago.
