Bangkok hotel choices

I can either stay in Westin Grand Sukhumvit or Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit or Royal Sheraton (due to starwood points)Ant thoughts on location and which hotel might be more luxurious? Or any other recoomendationswill be appreciated. Thanks

While the Sukhumvit locations might be better for shopping, most Bangkok first-timers prefer to stay on the river. The Royal Orchid Sheraton (often abbreviated "ROS" on this board) would fit the bill. All three hotels are pretty luxurious. For extra special attention, some prefer to stay in the Towers at the ROS.

I've not stayed at any of the properties you mention, but I'd agree with Craig. IF this is your FIRST time to Bangkok, then stay at the ROS on the river.

You asked about luxury... Bangkok has two of the world's top hotels: the Peninsula and the Oriental. Both are fantastic choices on the river. Both are also higher priced, but a real bargain when you compare something similar in quality with, say, NYC or London.

But if using your points is important, then go with ROS.

i prefer the sheraton grande to the ROS...newer and nicer, but not on the river

I assume you're using Starwood points to stay. We do. The Grande on Sukhumvit is more deluxe, but we always stay at the ROS. It is very well located for restaurants and staying on the river provides a respite from the frenzy of BKK. There's a hotel ferry down to the skytrain and the river ferry next to the hotel. Also, it's fewere points than the others.

The Grande is certainly more luxurious and has a fantastic pool. If you like shopping, the location is great. But the ROS does have the great riverside location. Unfortunately, it's a huge place that has little character/service to speak of.
