Bangkok hotel advice

I tried to book the Rama Gardens for our last night in Bangkok since we have a 6:00am flight the next morning but they are sold out for our date of July 12. Can anyone recommend something close to the airport. We need a triple room, preferably under US$100. Doesn't need to be 5*, just clean and comfortable. Do you think we need to stay close to the airport or is that not really an issue since we are leaving so early. Appreciate your opinions.

There is a recent post about Bangkok airport hotels with some info about alternatives. If you want to look at it, type in "Rama Gardens" in the Search box and it will come to the top. The bottom line, however, is that the alternatives aren't too good and that you may be better off staying in the city even if your plane leaves at 6 AM.

As Craig said you might be better off staying in town, anyway try this site as they have all the Airport hotels listed

I just got back from Bangkok and I didn't see a lot of hotels near the airport but they have to exist. I thouht I saw the Sofitel on the map as being close to the airport. Very close to the airport I didn't see much, but research it. The traffic is pretty bad in the city so it would probably behoove you to stay in the general direction of the airport.

If you are already in Bangkok, I'd just stay where you are for the last night. Your flight is very early, and at that hour, it doesn't take long to get to the airport. If I'm already in Bangkok, I always stay put for my last night. I only use the Rama gardens if I'm flying in (or driving in, like from Hua Hin) from somewhere else and am headed to the airport early.

We will be returning from Siem Reap probably in the late afternoon on this day. I was able to book at the Pathumwan Princess thru sawasdee.com I discovered that the International Aids Conference is being held in Bangkok July 11 - 16 and this is why a lot of hotels are sold out. Staying in the city will give us some extra time for last minute shopping before we leave the next morning. Thanks for the advice.

The Watana Mansion has triples at a very good rate. It's a clean, basic blue collar hotel with easy access to the airport. Check out this website:

Send me your email address and I'll send you some info you'll need to communicate to a taxi driver to help you get there once you get back into BKK on your way home. They'll make sure you have an early morning taxi waiting for you to take you back to the airport.
