Bangkok Budget Hotel

Can anyone recommend a good clean hotel with a good breakfast in Bangkok up for to $50 a night? I have stayed at A-One and enjoyed my stay there, although it was a bit out of the way.

We stayed at a private room at Suk 11 last month and liked it a lot. It was under $30. There is breakfast, but it's very simple. Do you know what area you want to stay in? If you want to be near KSR for example, my friends loved the Lamphu House. It's also under $30.

Thank you for your help. I was looking for something a little more upscale, in the $30-$40+ range but Lamphu House looks nice. One concern I have is that the taxi driver can find the place, as I have had that problem before.

It's on Soi Rambuttri, adjacent to KSR. All taxi drivers I have used knew exactly where this street was.

Rambuttri Village is another one near Lamphu House, and has a pool.

Have a look at the Chaophraya Park, Grand Hotel and Siam Beverly. All are within short walk of the subway and used to be around $40 a night, but I haven't checked lately.

Have a look one of my favourites inexpensive hotels the Bossotel Inn. Great location, down by the river and easy walk to ferry pier and skytrain station. Rate for std rm around 1465 baht. Get the better sup at 1715

Also check out the Golden House, a 5 minute walk to Chitlom skytrain station. Rates 1650-1800 baht

Swiss Park Hotel on Sukhumvit not far from Nana station

A few weeks ago I needed a hotel in the Sukhumvit area, close to The Emporium shopping center. I found an spotless, charming, small hotel by the name of BAAN SUKHUMVIT. Cost under $50.00. A good breakfast (not buffet style); a free PC in the lobby for e-mail or to download photos and even a mini-bar with NORMAL PRICES. The rooms also spotless and even a firm mattress. The manager was friendly and helpful and so was the rest of the staff. A few blocks from the Phrom BTS stop. They are opening a sister hotel around the corner. Check their website.

Budget pricing is really less than half your price. Your $50 per night is more a "middle to low high" price for Bangkok.

Swiss Park gets my vote too! Close to the Skytrain.

Asia Hotel, right on a Skytrain stop if you don't want so many bars around.

Fortuna Hotel, on sukhumvit Soi 5 is not too bad! http://www.fortunabangkok.com/

(Also close to Nana Skytrain stop.)

The Fortuna has an "all you can eat buffet: that is also open to walk-ins. Real close to the Fortuna is the Foodland Supermarket where you will find a 24 hour restaurant serving Western and Asian specialties. This restaurant is always crowded with local expats and tourists. American style breakfast is around 70 baht, including coffee and small juice. (You can also buy a steak from the meat counter and the restaurant will grill it right in front of you just the way you want, for a small, small cooking fee that is!)

A hotel with a breakfast menu or not is not that important. You can find breakfast (American, Asian and European style pretty cheap in many small restaurants.)
