Great Help Bill thanks. Decided to book the Calypso Caberet and wondered if you were happy with the front rows. Where do you recommend we request seating? Is the skytrain nearby. We're staying at the Marriott Spa - taxi or skytrain? thanks again

Sit in the front rows in the middle. On their website you can select the seating you want and then make a reservation from the website asking for the rows that you want. You don't need to pay anything at that time-just show up an hour or so before the show and pay.(Better yet get the tickets a day ahead just to be sure there will be no problem) The show is in the Asia hotel which is right at the skytrain- exit the skytrain and there is an entrance to the hotel connecting the skytrain.
We stayed at the Penn and took the skytrain over and back. Do not book the dinner show- just get the later show which gives you one drink cost-$25. Be sure to bring your camera and a full roll of film. These ladyboys are very attractive- you won't believe your eyes. The show is very classy and you will really enjoy it. After the show the ladyboys line up and you can have your picture taken witrh them as you leave. Tip them a bit.

The later show is the cocktail show- that is one you want.

I just looked at their website and although our trip is not until Aug 2005, I am lining up all my resources.

The current rates were excellent going through Oct 2004. A balcony room went for $180 incl breakfast. Their hotels own webiste was good, asia-hotels.com the rates were good, expedia, the rates were good. Come to thihnk of it, every source so far ( and I know there are more!)has so reasonable rates for the Peninsula. In your research, did you feel that thailand-hotels.voyagenow.com gave you the best rates. Did you also contact the hotel directly or use any other sources?

BillT: do you know if the balcony rooms are that much more spectacular than the Grand Deluxe you stayed in. do you know what the cost of the airport transfers would be had they not been included in your packaged deal.

Does you travel agent Bunny mind being contacted even though I only you know as BillT from fodors.com??! Did she just arrange your hotel or any other special things for you?

tripgirl---the limo is about $40 one way++...i do not think you would get much use out of the balcony quite honestly...its so hot and humid that you would not spend much time out there...all the windows are ceiling to floor so you think you are out there...

i do not see any difference between a grand deluxe room and a deluxe room...i have seen the difference between grand deluxe rooms however....not all rooms in the same class are the same...

one good booking spot is: www.huahin.20m.com....their rates include tax, service and breakfast....penn has been at $173 for quite a while...

sometimes the penn asks you if you want to upgrade when you arrive...usually $40 extra...

Tripgirl- I agree with Bob- forget the balcony room- you really don't want to walk out on the balcony in the hot humid weather- plus it restricts your view because of its design. Tell Bunnie its Bill Toliver that sent you. She was able to get us a room for $180- grand delux with airport transfers and breakfast.

Tripgirl - our agent did not provide any other services as we did not ask her to, but she can iof asked. We used Ratt- so we did not need their services.
The airport transfer was in a nice mercedes.

Bill, how did you book your airfare? I'm planning a Bangkok trip in April/May. I'm traveling from New York City, and I've been terribly confused as to how to arrange all the airfare.
P.S. We don't have enough F.F. miles for the flight.

We booked thru our travel agent- who specializes in Asia travel. If its just airfare that you need I think you should be able to do it thru a number of airline websites or booking engines.

Re; air to Thailand. I'd start with the asian airlines -- they are soooooooo much better than the American ones. Big question is if you want to change on the coast. If that's ok with you, try Thai as they often have excellent fares. I think you can fly Japan, ANA and Cathay from NY to Japan or HK and then connect which eliminates the west coast connection.

EVA Air flies from new York- they have Evergreen Deluxe Class at a very affordable price- we flew this class to bangkok- it was great - a lot of leg room, wider seats, good service.
