Bangkok , Annual Jim Thompson Sale
I have been reading some recent posts with inquiries about silk and particularly at Jim Thompson including the clearance store .Christmas night I saw a very good friend who is just back from another trip to Bangkok who told me that he lucked onto the annual clearance sale held by JT . He saw an advertisement , quite small ,in The Nation newspaper for this sale held at BiTec - sorry I do not recall the exact spelling/ name -?? which is a vast auditorium or conference centre .He went and said he had never seen anything like it.There were 5000 people all provided with huge bags buying up .Cheaper than the current clearance store off Sukhumvit but of course only held once a year in December. So for those who go regularly and may do so in December I thought you might like to know of it as I had certainly never previously heard a word about it .

The sales are always listed on the Jim Thompson web site - there are usually two sales each year. For the past 2 yrs sales have been held before Christmas.

John,
They, retailers, often have these special sales and even the manufacturers have special sales as well. You might want to book mark the following links for Bitec and Impact convention center and check their event calendars.

The one that your friend went to was held on December 14 - 16.
My favourites event is the Bangkok International Gift Fair and Bangkok International Houseware Fair (BIG) held twice a year at Impact.

traditionally they have had several sales starting in late november, then a couple of years ago they did a combo sale with some other companies and i gather that did not work out...this past year i think they had a 3 days sale around dec 15 and i think they said they are going to do something similar again this year...
they are fantastic sales...of course not every item is available for sale...just like the outlets...you take your chances....but general merchandise like T shirts, placemats, ties, fabric, hankies, pillow covers etc etc will be well represented...its my understanding that they are all first quality, but i am not sure of this...
its a wild day!!!
advice: each of you take a bag and seperate....grab anything you think you might want....then meet up later and sit on the floor and sort through things...give rejects to an employee for return to the right place....make a second round through the tables...
cash out....usually there is a seperate line for VAT discounts and for cash and for credit cards....also they have JT boxes, etc available for a very small charge and sometimes free...
its 'hanuman heaven'....he buys the boxes only and then buys things at patpong and puts them in the boxes and gives them as gifts... just kidding, he is a 'genuine' type guy...

Somehow I always miss the JT sale. But I make a regular stop at the outlet.
A couple of years ago at the outlet we purchased a beautiful duvet cover. Looking at it on the bed makes me think we need to look for another. We paid about US$100 for a gorgeous cover and two pillow shams. What a deal!

I miss the sale every year usually by a few days. The signs are still up, however, when I arrive. There's shuttle service from the street level of the Nana station...on the north side of the street. The shuttle sign says BITEC which is where the sale is held. I usually just go to the outlet. Happy Travels!
