Bangkok & Koh Samui
 

I’m going to Bangkok June 1 – June 5 (Peninsula) and to Koh Samui June 5th – June 10th (Sala Samui).

I’m sure those two places and their surroundings will accommodate my interests and wishful lifestyle.

I’m looking for classy/trendy places (restaurants, lounges, clubs). We’re from NY so we knows style………..

I want to do a bit of sight seeing but I hate places with herds of tourists and long ticket lines.



I hope you can make a few suggestions for me.

Put Bed Supper Club on your list for Bangkok. Very unique, excellent food and service, and entertainment that is most unusual. It is located on Sukhumvit soi 11.

For a nightcap, try Sky Bar, on the 64th (?) floor of the building with the golden dome that you will see from the Peninsula. It's called State Tower. Drinks are not cheap, but the view is to die for, and the air is usually fresh and breezy up there.

There are restaurants at the top of State Tower also. Mezzaluna is inside, but with a spectacular view.

Sky Bar is a place you go when you are dressed for an evening out. Don't go in chunky sandals and shorts or you won't get in. Dress appropriately, and ENJOY.

If you appreciate jazz, spend an evening in the Bamboo Bar at the Oriental. You can get a boat there from the Peninsula.

Ko Samui: Evasson Hide away Restaurant On The Rocks (north east of the island)for modern fushion cooking, very stylisch and The five Islands Restaurant for great seafood (south west), best to be combined with the five islands experience: little private boat trip, some snorkling if you want, shower, sunset coktail on the beach and diner. Very private/romantic, all organized by the restaurant, picking you up about two ín the afternoon and back whenever you want.

Sounds great. Are there any trendy clubs or lounges?

Not sure - not that kind of place last time I went but it has seen a lot of development since. You may want to post this question over on the Thailand tripadvisor.com forum as there are some guys on there that live in Samui and will certainly be able to advise you on this.

Another question, I want to do some sightseeing but since it’s a honeymoon I don’t want to be overwhelmed with huge lines and noisy tourists. When is the best time to go to Grand place, JT’s house…..places like that.

I would recommend a guide in Bangkok, just to make everything super easy and stress-free.

Sorry, but I haven't been to Ko Samui. I don't do beach destinations a lot. I live in a Pacific Ocean state, so I get a lot of the ocean/beach and all year due to great weather where I live. If you have any other questions on Bangkok, then feel free to post. Many of us regulars vacation there a lot and someone will jump in and answer. As far as sight seeing in Bangkok. I'd recommend that you take a water taxi to the Grand Palace/Temple of the Emerld Buddha when it opens in the morning. The Pen's boat will drop you off at the main pier and you can ride the water taxi to teh pier near the Grand Palace. The fare is less than 20 baht, and it's real Bangkok public transport (always a highlight!). For the Jim Thompson House, I've never been there when it was really crowded, but I tend to opt to go places early when it's still cool (Ha! just less sweltering).
