Bangkok Airways Luggage Allowance
 

Can anyone tell me what is the checked luggage allowance and what is the carry on allowance on Bangkok Airways? We will be traveling on their Boeing 717 if that matters. Also does anyone know how strict they are in enforcing it? Thanks.

they do weigh everything very carefully i have noticed that...their web site lists the weights i believe...i have seen people with lots of suitcases...they don't seem to fuss about things however....carry on area is limited...they sometimes switch planes and cancel flights so you might end up with a prop plane...they are good about answering e mails so send an inquiry...

Don't worry about this. We just spent three weeks in Southeast Asia, carrying around way too much luggage - well over any regional carrier's weight limit. We took four different flights with Bangkok Air, and nobody ever said a word to us.

In contrast, Air Asia has an even lower max (15 kg as opposed to 20), and enforces it fairly rigidly. There are other reasons to avoid Air Asia, but that's for another time.

I took five different flight segments this past May/June on Bangkok Airways. On every single flight, I was charged the excess baggage fee. Each charge was about US$25, equivalent.

johnwm, do you remember how much weight you were over? Or did you have extra bags? I sent a note to Bangkok Airways and they replied that the limit was for 1 bag, so I am now leaning on us taking 2 large bags and just make sure they are not over 40pounds. Then we are just going to take 2 very small carry ons.

I am trying Nok Air in Sept. If you upgrade, for very little money, the baggage allowance is higher and you can change your ticket at no fees.

lbrown7, hello! You asked how much my baggage weighed: my large suitcase (a roll-a-board) weighed in at 30 kilos (about 66 or so lbs.) My so-called carry-on, which Bangkok Air did not permit me to carry on, weighed in at 15 kilos (about 32 lbs.). However, because the service was pleasant, a meal snack was served, and the price was cheap, I simply put up with the charges. Yes, I'd do it again but I'd simply try to pack lighter the next time.
