Bangkok Airport /Lounges Hotels
Can anyone recommend a hotel (other than the Amari Airport) close to BKK airport for an 8 hour stopover. Alternatively, a private lounge at the airport with shower facilities.

Chateau de Bangkok by Sofitel...an Accor hotel...200 meters from Ploenchit Sky Train station...200 Baht, one way, by taxi late night...early morning... about a 20 minute taxi ride. I had the hotel pick me up,at the airport, but it took over an hour to get out of the underground parking...traffic jams. It would have been quicker in a taxi as they are waiting outside the airport...above underground level. I took a taxi back to the airport. I was at the hotel to sleep for only about 5-6 hours before returning back to the airport to fly down to Singapore first before returning back up to Bangkok. The price for my Jr. Suite with full kitchenette was 1400Baht...about $34.15...this was just in August.Great hotel/serviced apartment building with two restaurants and beautiful pool on the roof.Telephone from U.S. 800.818.4685. Highly recommended! Happy Travels!

For a very short stay, I use the Rama Gardens. I always ask for an Executive room in the new wing. The rooms are very nice, huge bathrooms (I always like a nice, long soak after I get off a flight from the US). Take a taxi from the airport - maybe 10 minutes max. They have a shuttle which drove me back to the airport in the morning for my next flight, it took 10-15 minutes. I usually book at www.asiahotels.com

either rama gardens or one of the comfort properties---there are two i think...rama is better....rama has a day rate...

the confort sounds like a good choice it's only an 8 hour stopover. there is NO need too go too the city.

In Apr 04 we stayed at Asia Airport Hotel (5 mins by free shuttle from airport)waiting for our flight to Turkey after arriving from Myanmar. The room rate through www.thai-hotels.com was US36 no bfast. In Dec we only need a day room after we return from Delhi so have booked the same hotel for US25 for 6 hrs use between 0700-2100. The hotel is OK-nothing special about it, however the rooms are comfy and clean & there is a small shopping centre attached to the hotel for snacks, beer and electronic stuff. i.e. we bought lots of printer cartridges for 100 baht ea. In Oz they are equiv of 250 baht ea.

You can walk to the Amari from the airport terminal.

Hi Lucy-it's true the Amari is very convenient if you have the bucks and lack the time to stay elsewhere. We checked out the hotel on our last trip to Thailand and thought it was way overpriced for what it offers. USD76 for a day room, and US123 for one night. The OP did say "other than the Amari Airport".
