Bangkok Airport and Siam Heritage Hotel

All the great postings here were so helpful before our trip, so I'll post some comments on our experiences in various areas.
We arrived on a Northwest flight from Seattle via Tokyo at the new Bangkok airport around midnight on Nov 4 on left again on the morning of Nov 5 on Bangkok Airways for Siem Reap. We returned on the evening of Nov 7 and left for home on Nov 21. Each of those times the airport seemed to be functioning just fine. No delays on take offs or landings, luggage arrived quicker than at most US airports, plentiful, clean and uncrowded restrooms, enclosed smoking rooms in various locations, and fairly quick immigration considering all the checking and stamping that goes on. I don't do airport shopping, so can't comment on that. Check in for Northwest and Bangkok Airways was quick and painless. I didn't notice any problems with temperature control or crowding except just outside where drivers, tour leaders, etc. were trying to get the attention on arriving passengers.
We stayed at the Siam Heritage Hotel on Surawong Rd. It's a small hotel with large rooms decorated in Thai style. They serve a good breakfast and have inexpensive internet access in the business center. There is a smallish pool and hot tub on a lushly decorated roof. The location was great--just by the night market, about a 5 minute walk to the Skytrain, and a couple of blocks from the Jim Thompson Outlet store. The staff was very friendly and helpful and there was security at the entrance.

Just got back from the Siam Heritage hotel, and enjoyed it too. I remember the lady hostess (the lady in green), trying to teach her son how to make omelets at the omelet station. He dropped the omelet into the fire when he tried to flip it, and they both laughed in an embarrassed way. It`s practically next door to the Patpong. That didn`t bother us at all. I guess our visits to the Siam Heritage overlapped. We left on Nov 10. Had no problems with the new airport either. We also did the Northwest flight but from LAX to Narita, and on to Bangkok. I was ready for a meltdown, I was so tired by the time we got to Bangkok. I don`t sleep well on planes. I did enjoy Thailand!

Pat,
We missed the omelet lesson, but were there when you were. Glad you had a good experience, too. We were pleased with our Northwest flights. All four were on Airbus 330's and as comfortable as it gets in coach. They seemed to have more room than our Qantas flights to New Zealand a couple of years ago. On overseas flights I usually fall asleep, wake up and think we must be almost there, then find out only 7 minutes have passed. However, coming home this time, I slept almost the whole time I wasn't eating. Probably because on hardly any sleep the night before and all the activity of our trip!

Thanks for the report Angelyn. I am in the planning stage of my vacation and the Siam Heritage Hotel was one of my choices. Your experience has conf helped me to decide that yes, I would like to stay there. Did you make your reservation on the internet?
