Bangkok accomodation

I am planning a 3-4 day vacation in Bangkok in September. I was trying to find out from travel books which area I should stay in. But I am really confused. The city just seems to be spread out totally. Could someone suggest an area that have the major tourist sites and good restaurant? Thanks.

I recently stayed at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit and highly recommend it. It's in the central business area and is in walking distance to most tourist sites.

You're right, Bangkok is spread out, and there is not one place that is best to stay. My preference is to stay on the river. the views are great, and you can take a water taxi to places you want to see along the river (like the Grand palace and the Temples of teh Emerald Buddha. There are lots of lovely hotels along the river, including the esteemed (and very pricey) Oriental, the Peninsula, and the Royal Orchid Sheraton. The Royal Orchid is where I always stay, in a Towers room, which includes such amenities as breakfast in the club, cocktails and hors d'ouveres every evening, and 24 hour butler service. You can take one of the water taxis or foot ferries to great places to eat and shop along the river.

Also, don't forget wherever you are, the taxis are sooo cheap you can just take one. Or even better, go by tuk tuk for a ride you won't forget - so much fun

Would agree with Kathie, the river is an excellent place to stop. There are 4 excellent hotels. The Oriental, Peninsula, Sheraton and the Shangri La.

Stay at the Shangri La and in particular the fabulous Krungthep wing and you can take the monorail which stops right next door to this wing of the hotel (Don't worry its silent).
