Bali Hotel

we are looking for a moderately priced (U.S. $100 and up)hotel in Ubud Bali that is quite traditional, quiet with great service and a pool. The Fodorites faves sound great but we can't justify $350 a night on a hotel when there are so many options. However, it's confusing! Help!

You might like the Bali Hyatt in Sanur. It's quiet, with huge gardens and beautiful pools. (One of the pools there is my favorite in SE Asia.) It's in Sanur, so you are walking distance to shopping and places to eat as well as having good restaurants at the Hyatt. I always stay in the Regency Club, which is over $100, but the regular rooms are under $100.

I don't think you'll have much trouble Bali is very reasonable and you get alot of your money.

Have a look at the auction site Luxury Link as they have quite a number of good packages at Bali hotels. The prices are excellent and you may be able to get the places mentioned here within your price range eg:Ibah and Kamandula are both great places.

I have used Luxury Link for LOTS of trips...Savannah, Venice, Prague and Mexico and they are reliable.

However, you must be somewhat cautious if you plan on bidding for a property do make sure you check availability with the hotel first. This is very important as I recently failed to do this and now have 7 nights in St Lucia that I couldn't use in May and will have to use later in the year. Oh well, I went to Thailand instead so it didn't work out too badly!

Balitravelforum is also a great resource, aimed mainly at Australians it's full of good information.

Hope that helps.

I agree with you- I have a hard time justifying anything at $350 and above as well- I apply the law of deminishing returns- especially in Asia!

www.balidiscovery.com usually has some good deals on hotels.

Hi givemeaticket,
I would like to recommend a small Balinese hotel located just outside of Ubud, close to the Monkey Forest. The hotel is called Alam Jiwa (www.alamjiwa.com). Our family of 4 stayed there in Dec. 2004 and loved it. We stayed in a deluxe rice field view room and were served a fabulous breakfast each morning on the room's terrace. The staff was warm and welcoming, they did all they could to make our stay a pleasant one. The hotel also provides free transportation into downtown Ubud and the surrounding areas. The driver took us to Indus Restaurant one night, picked us up at an appointed time, drove us then to downtown Ubud to watch the Kecak dance being performed and picked us up right outside after the show. This small hotel came highly recommended on a Bali Travel forum and we were really happy with it. The views were lovely and it is in a very quiet area. You can walk to the Monkey Forest too. It is also right on target with your budget. Enjoy!

thanks - will check out the alam jiwa. Has anyone had any experience with either Pita Maha or Ketut's Place? I know they are a bit wide apart in price range but we could do 3 nights at one and 3 nights at the other.

Givemeaticket - I am also looking for hotels in Ubud that are priced lower than the $300. What did you end up choosing?
