Bali Honeymoon?
Does anyone think Bali and Lombok would make a good honeymoon destination in June 08?
If so, does anyone have any good suggested itineries? |
i think it would make one of the most fantastic honeymoons ever....!!
key is to pick the right place or places to stay....there are tons of choices.... take a look at quinci villas and their hotel in lombok.....i will be staying there and can't wait... on bali the choices go on and on....private villas.....secluded hotels....chain hotels....mom and pop type places....wild places....in and out of town.... in the past i have stayed at the conrad (highly recommended) and the bali hyatt (there are two --this is the older---rooms not so nice...) this time we have choosen all smaller places: Puri Santrain in sanur (a small town which we really like on the sea); alam shanti near ubud and Tandjung Sari also in sanur.... i also will be there in june, '08.... pricing varries depending on where you book....booking directly you can ask for a discount also... i would hire a driver/guide for a few days....they will lay out a touring route and work with you to refine it based on your research.....we have used putu, often spoken about on this board..... [email protected] is one of his e mail addresses...he is young and makes bali come to life for you.... |

I personally think Bali is one of the 2-3 most beautiful destinations we have visited in 41 years of travel. I cannot say the same about Lumbok. We did not particularly enjoy the day trip (short plane ride, 7 hours with driver there and back to Bali). It was not that interesting unless you are a diver then 2-3 days would be worth doing.
In Bali we really enjoyed the Four Seasons-Sayan in Ubad more than the Aman or Jimbaran Bay. A Deluxe Room was just lovely in 2003 and 2005. A driver/guide for 2-3 days going as far as 75-100 miles from Ubad makes for some interesting sights. |
We spent our honeymoon in Bali in 2006 and couldn't have been happier with the experience. We loved the following hotels:
Bali Pavilions in Sanur, the perfect way to begin, a week with our own private villa w/pool. Nusa Lembongan Resort (Nusa Lembongan, great for diving as well. The Damai in Lovina, the place itself is the destination! The Ibah in Ubud, beyond words! Have a wonderful time, we can't wait to get back... |

I really like Kajane Mua in Ubud. It's right in town so you can walk anywhere, but the villas are lovely and a great value for the price. At some of the more expensive hotels you get a little plunge pool, but at Kajane, we got our own private horizon pool large enough to swim in. Very zen modern bathroom with a double tub in a garden. They bring your breakfast to your own private patio, so lovely for a honeymoon. Massage available by your pool as well. We've stayed there twice and the service was lovely. They drove us to dinner and performances at no cost, too.
I agree with the rec. for Putu. We have also used him several times and went to interesting ceremonies. In fact, he took us to his nephew's wedding! |
The weather in June is excellent. It is " winter " so there is a mistral breeze and low humidity and little or no rain . Have a look at www.balidiscovery.com which is the website of a local travel company which will let you see a variety of options to stay at depending on budget . I like Lombok and have been 3 times but have not been back for 5 years .I stayed at the Novotel Coralia at Kuta beach but many love The Oberoi on the opposite coast . In Bali I have stayed at all levels opf accomodation but for something special I like The Legian Suites .Depending on how long you are planning to be there I suggest staying at 2 or 3 places . Spend the first few nights at Legian to get a feel for the built up shopping / dining area ( that is if you like eating out and shopping , see www.balieats.com ) then to Lombok for 4 or 5 nights then back to Ubud for 3 nights and then a last couple of days on the coast or do a quieter schedule with just 2 stops and perhaps a luxury villa on a beach around Canngu with staff / chef as a treat .The options are endless .

Debbie,
Bali is an amazingly romantic place and you're gotten some great advice -- you'll want some time at a beach location and some time inland near Ubud and a few days with a driver to see other parts of the island. Which beach you choose has a lot to do with your budget and tastes -- Legian/Seminyak is trendy/boutiquey, Kuta is louder/party central commercial/Sanur is more laid back, also east coast so sunrises over the water, not sunsets. Nusa Dua is more of a tourist enclave of luxury places (and where the UN had their recent Climate Convention), we stayed on Jimbaran and loved the 4 Seasons but had an employee discount (so that could have slanted us), but they designed the resort to look like a Balinese village and you get your own indoor/outdoor villa with a plunge pool, etc etc so it's pretty nice. In and around Ubud you have a lot of choices -- I liked going there as you can walk around the town, easily check out dance performances at night and get out into the countryside. I also really liked our trip up to the volcano. The Balinese really know how to make you feel special -- if we could swing it I'd be going back to renew our vows this year for our 20th -- I loved it there so much. Here's our web log with pictures, etc if you want a preview: http://web.mac.com/kitskarstrom/iWeb/Bali/Welcome.html |
