Bali Help

Hi,

My children have a mini holiday next week(half term) and I've been offered some really wonderful rates at the following hotels in Bali - haven't been for over 15 years. Please help and suggest what you think is better?

1/. 2 days around Ubud - hotels or resorts offered to me are: Begawan Giri, Four Seasons Sayan and Maya Ubud.

2/. 2 days around the seaside area - hotels offered are Conrad, Hard Rock and Amanusa.

I'm getting really good rates for the above hotels or resorts so I'm just wondering which one I should go for? I will be travelling with wife and kid(13) and friends with similar age kids so children activities around the seaside resorts is quite important.

Thanks in advance!

the conrad was new in may and is absoulutely fabulous....huge pool areas and good for kids...somewhat remote however...

Thanks rhkkmk! Out of the three hotels that I've mentioned I'm getting the best deal at the Conrad so I will probably will confirm there.

Did you visit around Ubud? Planning to do that first and spending a couple of nights there.

If you are looking for bargains, Maya Ubud will be the lowest cost of the 3. We stayed there in July of 2003 and loved it. Try to get a pool or garden villa if you can. Ubud is well worth a couple of nights.

hey, pls. consider Four Season Sayan near Ubud... inspired hotel and great views

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I've booked the Begawan Giri and Conrad and I did look at all your suggestions. The Maya pool villa is great so is the Four Seasons Sayan(I'm a resident owner at the FS in Chiang Mia) but the Begawan Giri looks so beautiful and local!

Cheers,

we were in the ubud area a couple of days....i'm afraid i did not find it as interesting as some other fodorites....i found it big and spralling and not easy to navigate...and we had a driver...

you will love the conrad...it is minamilistic in its looks and rooms...the rooms offer 9 pillow choices if you can believe it...the food is good but expensive....go out at least one nite to "bumbum" bali restaurant...very good...they will send a car for you...

do you need a driver....we had putu and he was excellent....

Stayed in Conrad Bali for six nights last year with my 2 kids. It was a great place. I would highly recommend it. You can email me [email protected] if you need more info. I posted some photo of conrad Bali at these sites.

FS Sayan is unbelieveable, if you can stay there don't miss it!

rhkkmk Oct 16th, 2004 02:32 PM

newtourist....you stayed at conrad last year???? it didn't open its doors until may, 2004???

rhkkmk Oct 16th, 2004 02:34 PM

just looked at some of the pictures and that is indeed the conrad....they are dated april, 2004, not last year...

Rhkkmk & Newtourist,

Did any of you stay in the "Club" room at the Conrad? Perhaps you guys saw the rooms and lounge so please give a description if you can.

Thanks

rhkkmk Oct 16th, 2004 07:08 PM

we stayed in an upgraded room, but not in the club rooms....if our room is an indication, then the club rooms will be fantastic....
our room was on the ground level, with a direct step from our porch out onto the grass adajacent to the main pool....our room was very near to the breakfast dining room....it was an excellent location we feel...the elevator was right there to the main lobby area...

the first room we were in was a ways away from everything and we would not have liked this as well...

i have no idea where the club is actually... i am sure that it is nice...the manager, by the way, used to be manager of the bangkok marriott resort and spa... he is australian and a great guy if you run into him---mike is his name...he's around all the time...

the italian rest. is especially nice...the gourmet rest. was not as yet open when we were there...

if i had a choice of rooms another time i think i would choose a "villa" room with direct step access into the lagoon....i believe all rooms have a sea view, albeit not always near to the sea....

we always like being near to the lobby, especially in hotels that are as spread out as is this one...

i would spend my whole time there another time and continue to take day trips elsewhere....stockexchanger really liked one of the FS...we really liked conrad...
