Bali & Singapore

Hi All,

My husband and I (we are newlyweds) are looking to plan our next trip (next year end of June beginning of July) to Bali and Singapore. We are looking to go away for 2 weeks. I hear you only need 3 or so nights in Singapore. Would you recommend going anywhere else in addition to Singapore and Bali?
We both love beaches, culture, restaurants, and, nightlife.
Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks!

Bali and Singapore are a great combination. I wouldn't add anywhere else, but I would choose two locations on Bali, one at a beach and the other inland near Ubud. For beaches, avoid Kuta which is populated by drunk adolescents and avoid Nusa Dua which is a sterile tourist enclave. But there are lots of options: Seminyak is lovely as is Sanur.

Singapore has lots to do and see, but is rather expensive (not as expensive as Hong Kong for hotels, but still expensive).

As you read through posts here about Bali (go to the top of the page and choose the view by country drop-down menu for Indonesia) pay special attention to posts by marmot, who now lives on Bali.

"I hear you only need 3 or so nights in Singapore."

"Need", where travel is concerned, is a highly subjective thing. Rather than planning based on the inclinations of others, do some serious research, online and guidebooks, and learn how Singapore might be for you, then plan accordingly. While it has nothing to do with how you might like it there, despite the fact that cities tend not to be my favorite places, Singapore is a special city and I visit for as long as I can squeeze my budget to accommodate it. Three nights might be enough for you, but on the other hand, it's a great place to relax, walk and generally hang out, but 3 nights means only 2 full days, something to consider.

I also love Bali, definitely a place to linger. Singapore & Bali are, in my opinion, a perfect combination for a relatively short trip. You'll get plenty of the things on your wish list in those 2 distinctly different places and I wouldn't consider wasting precious days by moving and try to squeeze more in. It can be a recipe for experiencing less, rather than more.

Thank you so much!

I would concur that Singapore and Bali would make a good combination.

In 2017, the big Islamic holidays will fall around June 25 plus or minus a week. Although neither Bali nor Singapore will be directly affected, flights and resorts will be crowded as many Indonesian travel during the days before and after.

In Bali I would choose Seminyak for the beach, restaurants and night life. Then the Ubud area for culture and nature.

Greetings to the OP and congratulations on anticipated future holiday in our fine home of Singapore; fortunate to call SIN home for family, work, residence.

With judicious planning, costs associated with staying in our city-state can be kept somewhat under control. One resource: yoursingapore dot com/ And, happy to offer aviation suggestions, particularly with my primary business travel carrier, Singapore Airlines.

[Concerning aviation, had the privilege of some enjoyable meetings and receptions this most recent Friday morning at our Changi airport. Events concerned United Airlines' new non-stop service of San Francisco <-> Singapore. Before UA2 left SIN for SFO last Friday morning, met with some United managers who are quite keen on the new flights. For some rather pronounced professional and personal reasons, I remain partial to our Singapore Airlines; perhaps UA's new SFO-SIN non-stops will appeal to some of you.]

Enjoy your planning and have fun in our Singapore,

robert
