Bakeries/Breakfast Places- Near Westin Bangkok
 

Are there bakeries and/or breakfast places near the Westin Sukhumvit. We would be looking for places that are open early (before 10am as all the places in Terminal 21 do not open until 10).

If you want Western style breakfast that opens early then you have 2 choices.
1. In most hotel's coffee shop.
2. In supermarkets where they have diners see link to example below.

If you wait until after 8 or 9 then there will be a lot of cafe type restaurants serving breakfast as well. Most opens at around 9 though so if you have jet lagged and want breakfast at 5am then only the supermarket diners will be open.

Au Bon Pain in certain locations, like Bumrungrad hospital do open at 6.30 am and serves breakfast as well.

Sheraton might have something. I'd be surprised if Westin didn't have breakfast somewhere! Sheraton is right across on the other side of Sukhumvit (take the skytrain escalator up and go across). There is McDonalds at Robinsons department store, which is just down Sukhumvit a few minutes walk. Not sure what time they open though.

There's also Four Points at Sukhumvit soi 15 (just a very short walk into that soi). They have a lovely breakfast buffet. It opens early.

Across from the Westin, just a little up from the Sheraton, is V8, which is open 24 hours. It started out as an American diner concept but then switched to Thai tourist-generic, but they still do breakfast.

Right across from T21 is Black Swan pub, which is open for breakfast - opens at 8 am if not earlier. They do room service for the new Tune hotel, which is about 100 meters behind it.

If you use the skytrain bridge to cross the Asoke intersection and go into Exchange Tower, you'll find Chu, a small coffee shop that also reportedly has the best hot chocolate in Bangkok. They have a nice selection of bakery items as well as authentic churos.

The Bangkok Baking Co. Bob mentioned in the JW is nice, but a bit of a hike. Up Soi 11, which isn't that far from you, is the new Angel City Diner, which I think just opened last night. They're open 24 hours as well.

If you don't like partaking breakfast at the Westin (WGS), there are numerous bakeries/Breakfast places along the odd side of Sukhumvit stretching from Sukhumvit 19 (where the WGS is located) all the way to Sukhumvit 1 (expressway vicinity). So as others indicated, you really will have no problem finding the place that suites you ... all are good and affordable.

Michael- is Chu in Terminal 21? When you say Exchange Tower is that different from Terminal 21? Also does Chu serve traditional breakfast?

Exchange Tower is an office building. Soi Asoke or Asoke road is full of office building and it's just around the corner from Terminal 21.

Took Lae Dee at Food land is supposed to have a SUPER nice breakfast. I think their pancakes are renowned. I've not had them, but I have friends who have and they rave about them.

I have used the Took Lae Dee Restaurant (Foodland) on Sukhumvit Soi 5 many times over the years. Open 24 hours, this place was just recently remodeled. Just down from that Foodland is the Fortuna Hotel. They have an "all you can eat" breakfast buffet. I think it is still around 149 baht. This breakfast is open to walk-in customers. They cook the bacon and eggs the way I want it! Coffee, tea, small pastry selection, cold cereal, fried rice, chicken curry, hot dogs, ham, toast, some Japanese specialties, etc. Good enough selection for a low price.

One more thought - in the same building as Chu, on the first floor, Starbucks has opened their first *restaurant* in Bangkok. It's expensive (for Bangkok) and all the hot food is microwaved, but you might want to have a look.

I had breakfast at Took Lae Dee to see what it was all about. Yeah, it was cheap, and kinda interesting to do some people watching. But, ..... You sit at a counter and it is very noisy with the staff doing the dishes right in front of you, and all the pots and pans being banged around. I need more peace and quiet as I sip my coffee.

Yeah, it's a lunch counter. Like lunch counters everywhere in the world they want you to choose, eat and leave! For 51 baht (before 9 a.m.) Took Lae Dee kind of wants the seat free for another paying customer. Meat, eggs, juice, coffee or tea, toast, butter, jam - regular price after 9 a.m. is 63 baht. Buy two they are cheap!

You also get a quick cooking lesson watching them work up other regular non breakfast meals. Years ago you could choose a steak from their supermarket and the lunch counter would cook it for you - for a price!

OH, I am going to LOVE BKK!! I've been weary of going, but think I'll be just fine!! :) So excited.
