Back to the Drawing Board - Things are NOT Improving in Nepal

I must have jinxed it with my previous post. Anyway, I had registered with the Embassy for e-mail security updates just yesterday and wouldn't you know it, I get an alert this morning saying a general strike by "The National Peoples' Front" had shut down Kathmandu with major intersections blocked, cars being burned etc. I am beginning to understand the situation now - while things can be quiet and "safe" for a couple of weeks at a time, one of these strikes can suddenly erupt with little or no warning. We will NOT be going to Nepal next month.

Will continue to work on alternate itineraries that hopefully won't cost us much more than we have already planned to spend.

But Dogster's waiting for you! He's orchestrating a GTG that will put your Boston event to shame...

Craig from your earlier post, we booked Aurangabad, to see the caves for the time we were going to spend in Kathmandu. We are very excited about this and thanks for giving us the idea. My husband had just read a book about these caves. I will be interested to hear what you decide.

Yes, things do seem a little quiet... lol lol lol. I did, however miss the car burning.

But yup, it was shut down, big time. Everywhere. Not a cup of coffee to be had, not a bite of food. Airport transfers apparently in big green buses with 'Tourists, don't kill us' written on the side. No marauding mobs to my eyes but Kathmandu's a big town. Even Dogster's all-seeing eye cannot be everywhere. The local news continues, inexplicably, to be in Nepali, which doesn't make my life easy.

Nobody told me there was a bandh looming - but then, I'm lost in Kathmandu. Nobody tells me anything.
