Ah, the Ritz is only residences. I did not know that.
Do you know anything about Hyde on Suk? It isn't open yet. I believe it is a Hyatt with both hotel and residences. Hoping for serviced apts too. |
No, I don't know anything about The Hyde yet.
Happy Travels! |
We just found a great Mexican restaurant at the Em Quartier helix! It is another La Monita, like the one at Mahatun. I like this location much better! What a nice view we had. Food was great, margaritas yummy, nice atmosphere! We will, for sure, dine here again before we head home.
I did have Thai food for lunch today, just so uou know. Took La Dee at Foodland soi 16 right next to Column Tower, oh so handy and oh so good Finished my proofing today...yeah! Tomorrow we will have a meeting at the printing company, although we are not yet ready to actually print. But we can see the light at the end of the tunnel! We seem to get a thinder storm each evening around 9pm, and today is no exception. Rain is coming soon! |
Glad you are having a great time! Nice mix of work and fun. How was your meal at Hemingways? I looked at the website the last time you mentioned it in a trip report and it looks fantastic!
Keep it coming! |
Lolazahra, Hemingways is consistently good. I had a caprese salad and pizza this time. In the past I gave also had their sea bass and a shrimp dish. Their wine list isn't fantastic but we can get a decent chianti by the bottle.
Today we have a meeting at the printer's office. I see the light at the end of the tunnel, but it is still in the distance. I can't believe that I have not really left the Asok area and I have been here for 4 days! No trips to Paragon or Central World or Platinum Fashion Mall.....yet. There will be time for shopping after today's meeting, I hope. Not that I am looking for anything in particular... Tonight we will catch up with Lee Shamrock once again. This time on soi 11 at the Australian Pub. The nachos there are very tasty! I think I can actually stay awake later than 9pm now. Hahaha... (or 555 as we write here in Thailand) |
If you are my FB friend you can see a pic I snapped from our terrace showing the new Marriott Marquis, which was the old Queens Park Plaza. It is two tall grey towers and what looks to be the swimming pool area in between. Work on this new Marriott has been on-going for about two years. Certainly worth a look! It is very close to Emporium/Em Quartier mall
DH and I called it an early evening after trying the nachos at the Australian Pub. Today was a day of many hours of proofing/correcting after having had a 2-hour meeting this morning. My eyes are ready to close! The good news is I made it to 10pm! |
The location for the Marriott Marquis sounds good to me. I like the area around Emporium and EM Quartier. I'm not on Facebook, but I'll ask Cheryl to show me the photo. Thanks, Carol.

possible error: p. 174, paragraph 4, line 3. please check it
|
I put in march dates for the new Marriott and I got 4500-5900B per nite.
I generally do not like renovations, even total renovations. following a new JW in Vietnam, Phu Quoc---to be managed by my American friend from the JW in khao lak, TH. |
I wonder if the Hua Hin Marriott is totally new construction or a remodel. Do you know Bob?
Re the error on p 174 I corrected my copy last week :)) 555 I'm waaaay ahead of you..... First one up at 5:30. I've had my coffee and some cereal with fresh strawberries. Let the day begin!! There was evidently a light show last night or night before, (as in lighting on the building itself..like Empire State building?) of the new Ritz. The building is named the MahaNakhon Tower. I can't believe we missed the show. It is clearly visible from our terrace. We must have been asleep at the switch. I did a link on FB that should come up on my page if you want to see how it looked. I think I just might find some time for SHOPPING today! Yeah!!!! Pong and Lars and Angelee are coming over to our apartment tonight for a buffet of pizza, wine, cheese, finger foods, etc. Should be fun. It will not be a late night as Angelee has school in the morning. DS and Lat leave for Ho Chi Minh City tomorrow for the annual Asia Expat pool tournament. They will return on Sunday. DH and I will have the place to ourselves for a few days. Maybe we will go "shopping" for a new serviced apartment building! |
from all I have read it seems the HH M is all new.
good you caught that error... |
We had a lovely small dinner party last night in our apartment. Unlike Christmas Eve dinner, this small party was inside and not out on our enormous terrace. We had a very mighty rain storm come through, that lasted about 30 minutes, but it made the terrace very wet. We enjoyed cold cuts, fresh fruit, pizzas and wine...lots of wine. It was a good time!
Back to proofing today as the printing company is sending us print outs of the various sections for our corrections, a handful of chapters at a time. When I get back home the final corrections will be put in on our office computer and final files sent by email back to the printing vompany so we can go to print!! Very exciting, but a lot of work! Hoping to make it to Pratunam/Platinum for a few hours today. I am suffering shopper's withdrawal! :)) DS and Lat are off to Vietnam. They will return Sunday and we will go to the Kempinski for buffet with Lars and Pong and Angelee. I fly home on Monday the 5th. Vacation goes by sooooo fast!! DH and DS stay on until the 11th. Work work work! I have to get home for chemo #11 of 12. Almost done! Yeah! Then another scan. |
I really enjoy your reports each time, Carol. As a frequent traveler to Thailand, it gives me my "fix" in between times. I will be in Chiang Mai on the 3rd, and thought our paths might cross, but I see you are going home soon. Hopefully one of these days we can meet up, but most of my time is in CM.
Bob, anything you want me to tell Putu? He's taking me to the airport on Saturday. |
Bob, do you know about the location of the new Marriott Hua Hin? The place looks totally awesome.
Some nice shopping time today at MBK, Platinum and Pratunam. Tired of walking so I stopped off at the Intercontinental fot iced coffee and a snack. Very civilized! |
what about the location?? it is located where the old Marriott was.
I recently found out that the new GM is a friend from past thai Marriott properties. we are looking forward to a 6 night stay in December. |

Ah, ok. So the old Marriott was a complete tear down. I thought it maybe became another Anantara or something. Looking forward to our 5 night stay over the new year.
|
Stitch, sorry for the misconnect. I rarely nake it to CM these days, and if I do it is typically a short 1-2 day trip from BKK. But let's not give up.
I leave early morning on the 5th. |
I should have taken a photo of Sukhumvit today but didn't. This was my first trek to Vasu Exchange and I opted to walk from Column. I had not yet had a reason to walk along the sidewalk to get from place to place along Sukhumvit, between Asok and Nana. The sidewalk between soi 15 and 7/1 was NOT, I REPEAT...NOT filled with vendors selling t-shirts and copy purses. The sidewalk was cleared of any touts and their wares!! I thought I was in a different city for a minute. It has always been difficult to try to go quickly through the mobs of prople stopping to look on every table, and the narrow single lane of foot traffic always moved slowly. But not yoday. Hopefully not anymore. Looks like there was a crack down. There was a uniformed officer patrolling, so hopefully the vendors grt the message to pack up and move out.
Exchange rate was 34.53 btw. We snacked on leftovers in the fridge and worked all day. No new restaurants or shopping venues to report. Hopefully we get out and about tomorrow! |
I enjoy walking in Bangkok - and now I will enjoy it more! Thanks for the info, Carol!
