Frankly I wouldn't recommend either one. Both are large (in the case of W, VERY large) self contained, packaged resorts. Ayana is on a cliff overlooking the sea. To get to the beach you have to go down (and eventually up) a lot of stairs, although you can be driven partway. W is right on the beach.
Both resorts are accessed from long entry roads, so to leave for a meal or shopping entails getting a car or taxi. Jimbaran has, to me, limited attractions. Seminyak has many, many restaurants, shops, clubs, spas, etc.
Ayana (which you may know used to be the Ritz Carlton) is older and has mellowed and evolved. It has various ranges of accommodation and attracts various demographics.
W is brand new and it is trying so hard to be hip that it makes your teeth hurt. My impression was that it was just crass and phony. If every single person in Seminyak decided to have dinner there on the same night the restaurants would still be empty. It is way, way too big and way, way over designed.
My suggestion: look at The Legian in Seminyak. You get refinement, beach access, walking distance to everything in Seminyak and a beautiful serene environment. (I would have also recommended Samaya, but it seems they are under renovation.) You could also consider a private villa.
And how about a few nights in the Ubud area?

Thanks for the input.
I was considering to stay couple of days in ubud but then decided to go for daytrips to ubud cuz we dont want to be moving from one hotel to another and as for legian, there are no rooms avaialable.

No rooms at the Legian! Good heavens, that's too much success. When are you traveling?
I truly wanted to like the W, but as you can probably tell was really put off by it. Viva Las Vegas!
I think Seminyak would be a good balance to the isolation of the Banyan Tree. If you definitely want an ocean view you might look at Anatara or Sofitel. Otherwise, if slightly inland is okay, a private villa or a villa in a complex would be a good choice. Look at Laksmana group.
I'd still suggest a few nights in Ubud. The experience is a lot more intense when you actually stay there. I'd suggest Como Shambhala, Alila and Kayumanis, but there are plenty of other choices as well. Amankila if you can splurge.
