is this an ad??

Kathie Feb 14th, 2011 02:13 PM

No, Bob, it's info on ASSK appearing at the Brighton Festival.

This should be very interesting, Cliff. As you probably know, ASSK has previously declined to leave Burma, as she would not have been allowed back in. If she is going to Brighton, something must have changed.

I hope you will tell all of us who won't be at the Brighton Festival about it!

Even when her husband died of cancer a few years back, she didn't leave Burma to be with him.

Kathie Feb 14th, 2011 06:22 PM

That's right. The Generals said she was free to go, but not to come back.

a nice place to be brighton.... is the general loaning her his lear V for the trip?

If you follow Clifftop's link it is not at all clear that she is actually GOING to Brighton. She is the "guest director", and is quoted as saying: "It is especially pleasing for me to see, albeit remotely, Brighton Festival taking shape this year".

I would find it astonishing, given that she did not leave to be at her husband's death bed, that she would leave for a festival without some major change in policy, and there has been no sign of that.

I re-read the link after my post, and also concluded that she must be doing this remotely. While things have changed for the better for ASSK, after all, she is no longer under house arrest, it was quite a leap for me to imagine that the generals had relented and would allow her to return to the country after leaving it.

I am on route to BKK and then on to Bali, i will return to the UK on the 7th of March. By this time the Brighton Festival Brochure will be available with full information of ASSK's involvment.Within limits i am happy to post copies on to BMs.
I will be returning to Burma on the 14th April.
