August in Vietnam

Thinking of visiting Vietnam mid August for about 2-3 weeks. Is this a terrible time to go -weather wise? I understand it is monsoon season. Where should we go to avoid the rain? What about beaches? What will be the ideal beach to go that would not be rainy?

Thanks for any type of help here.

Hoi An and Hue will be less rainy than Saigon, but it usually only rains in the afternoon for an hour or so in Saigon this time of year. Driest beaches will be in Central Vietnam.

Being a long thin country Vietnma has a varied climate from region to region but I would say that August is one of the worst times to visit. Monsoons and weather patterns are not as predictable as they once were so it more difficult to predict. Generally speaking though it is possible to find good weather somewhere in the country year round. Finding a beach with sunshine may be more problematic.

There are some good beaches in central region although August is on the cusp of the wet/dry seasons and if the monsoon arrives early or late this would have a huge effect on the weather.

Thanks all for your responses. Where do you suggest we go, not in terms of beaches but other places to visit that would be okay weather wise? I think we should be handle the weather if it is only a matter of tropical showers that stops after a short time.

We can only go at this time since our kids are on school holidays. Our kids will be 12 yrs old and 8 yrs old when we will be there.

Thanks once again!

Sue
