Attn: JamesA

your advice is always so good and accurate, i am wondering if you might make some suggestions for our next thailand trip...we will be there in june and want to spend a few days at koh sumui...we have been to other places but not there in the past and i am having lodging troubles....
as you know from my many postings we like casual american style places, but comfortable...we love the bangkok marriott resort and spa...having said this could you suggest sumui lodging for us....i would prefer in the $ 100/nite range or less...must have reliable a/c and a pool with some shade if possible....????? we do not nead eating facilities at the lodging so a cabin/hut individual cottage would surfice....we would like to be at the beach if possible...we can rent a car if you know of something outside of town also if it fits our guidelines....

THANKS VERY MUCH FOR ANY ASSISTANCE

I have some friends in BKK who go down about every 6 weeks and sound like they stay similar to your requirements, I will give them a call over the weekend and find out where they stay.

They always stay at the Peace resort.
It's not too expensive which means that for a decent price you should get the top level accommodation. Hope that helps!

These are the guys I am my friends use, I've checked their site and the maximum rate you could pay for best cabin/bungalow is about $90. June this year for a Beachfront Bungalow was $78 including tax/service/breakfast. It's not top lux but adequote and good when compared with others. It's at Bophut which is good because although you can get to the busy areas of Chaweng you are well far away to be more relaxed.

'Casual but comfortable' fits the bill for Peace resort. I'll be going to Samui in a few months and plan to stay there. I think it will suit you fine

We are going to the Peace Resort in 2 weeks time. We chose it because we did not want to stay in Chaweng(did that last year). Will let you know what we think about it(BTW- staying at the Bangkok Marriott first)

fiona---you will be very happy at the marriott--it is actually our all around favorite in bkk..
i will look for a posting from you when you return to talk about the peace resort
