Asian Pillows
 

Ok this is a crazy question. I know. But here goes.
We were in Hoi An recently and the hotel had very small and this pillows. They were also pretty hard. It wasn't down or any other western style fill. I slept incredibly well with it though.
Has anyone heard of these or have any idea where I can find one? I have looked all over the internet with no luck.

I haven't been to Hoi An, but I've experienced a variety of different pillows in Asia. The ones that I've experienced that sound most like what you are describing were buckwheat. I got one, and still love it, but it is HEAVY -- enough so that it actually seems to have worn my mattress with unnecessary speed.

I've seen those but they seem large. Normal western size. Maybe I just need to get one and see.
The one I used couldn't have been more than 6 inches thick. Probably more like 3-4.

That soba kawa pillow is small and the depth is as you describe, but it is not heavy. Maybe if it was more densely packed then it might be heavy and firm.

Millet and rice can be used for pillows. Maybe rice seed or brown rice (or other grain) would give it weight. But I don't know why anyone would have a tradition of creating a pillow filling that included edible nutritious food.

For easy midnight snacks? ;-)

BTW, one place I stayed used pillows stuffed with some kind of strong, but flexible, twigs. Surprisingly comfortable! I don't want any, but am curious if anyone knows anything about them....

Have no info on OP's Q, but can say that many Asian pillows i have found are much too big for me. How anyone could get a good sleep on one of those is really beyond me. Maybe you have seen, in the movies perhaps, the ancient Egyptian 'pillows' which were wooden blocks! Not for me.

I carry my own small down filled pillow which a had made in China (now on my 2nd one), so handy and packs up so small. That and my yoga mat go everyplace i visit. But lately have also been taking giant sound deadening earmuffs (as used in pistol ranges) and an eye mask. These 2 are needed on the airplane but sometimes the earmuffs are handy in the hotel too. When the karaoke is very nearby.

The one I used had almost no give but was still comfortable. How I don’t know but it was. It was no more than 3-4 inches thick.

Why not contact the hotel and inquire about the pillow?
