Asakusa vs Ginza
I have two hotels in mind, Hotel Gracery Asakusa and Hotel Monteray Ginza. I can't decide which is better. Reviews put Asakusa higher, but I don't know about the neighborhood. This is our first trip to Japan. Any recommendations?

I can't comment on either hotel, but both neighborhoods are nice. Ginza has more subway stations, so a little easier to get around, depending on the hotel location.

Both are close to subway stations. Asakusa sounds like it’s an older neighborhood while Ginza seems more current.

I guess I don’t want it to be too dull, with good restaurants and breakfast places nearby. Don’t really care about high end shopping either.

Asakusa is not dull. Plenty of places to eat, and Senso-ji.

I don't know the specific hotels either, but IME, neither area would be dull, both would offer good restaurants and breakfast options, and -- depending on the exact locations of the hotels and where exactly you want to go, either could offer easy access to subways.
I'd prefer the more traditional atmosphere of Asakusa, but I also understand that Ginza could be a good choice for many travelers -- as long as you know that its an area known for high end shopping. |
Ok, Asakusa it is. Thank you for everyone’s input.
