Article on the plane crash in India

Interesting (and perhaps worrying) article on the Mangalore plane crash: http://tinyurl.com/29lfxpx

Yikes! This is worryisome! When my husband and I heard about the crash, we both noted that we hadn't known of any large air crashes in India for some time. From this article, it makes it sound as if that's just been a matter of luck. Except for our arrival and departure, and the internal flights from Udaipur/Delhi/Varanesi and Varanesi/Delhi we're traveling by car throughout our trip, but the information about the near-misses at the Delhi airport were anything but reassuring.

Conditions with the U.S. airline industry aren't that great either. Guess one option is to crawl under the bed and stay put.

The risks of air travel (even in India) are trivial compared to the danger of driving (especially in India).

More than 100,000 people die each year on the roads in India, compared with a few hundred in the previous decade of air travel:

I agree, Indian roads are scary. You should definitely stay off them at night. But there are always the trains.

Trains are no doubt a lot safer. But, generally, South India and Mumbai are safer, day and night. Near misses in flights and on roads are probably common in all airports, India notwithstanding!
