Are there any "off peak" times for travel to Tokyo?

I would love to visit tokyo, but the last time I checked rates, tickets were about 750 dollars. I know the peak season should be around the Cherry Blossom festival time.....but what are the off peak times?

I've gotten good fares for travel in May, purchased in Feb. or March. Have seen low fares going to Japan during Golden Week. Also, October and Sept/Nov are good.

Where in the world would you be traveling from? Does the $750 price include all taxes and fees? That could be an excellent fare depending on when it is for.

Golden Week, August Obon and New Year are peak times for flights FROM Japan, but in other direction the fares don't seem to change much, except that booking flights is more difficult because of demand from Japanese passengers. The usual high/low seasons ex-USA and Europe also apply to flights TO Japan - i.e. anytime outside of summer peak (July/August), Christmas/New Year and around Easter.
I find that by booking 3-4 months in advance you can usually get some specials for Japan throughout the year, so sign up for email alert with airlines and booking sites like Travelocity and Expedia.

If the $750 includes taxes and fees, it is an excellent fare from SFO

Thanks everybody. I didn't know what a good price range was, so I was hoping to get a ticket for around 400-500 bucks. Now that I know a good price range, I will have a better idea of how much the total trip will cost.

Like the others who have answered you, I have watched fares from U.S. (from the east coast) to Japan constantly for a few years. The only time there have been any $400-500 fares to Japan was when the new airport in Nagoya opened early last year. There were special promo fares by United (and maybe American) going into and out of that airport for the first few months. But that is it.

There were some $650 fares for a ltd. time on United this yr. But of course you can't plan for them, they just pop up for a very limited time and if you are lucky and very flexible, maybe you can get them. Otherwise, sale fares are generally about $900.
