Are any areas in Thailand 'cold'? Higher Elevations?

We are going in a couple of weeks and all we've read about is the heat and humidity. Are the higher elevations cooler and how cool?

Any temps below 70????

Right now in Bangkok it's very pleasant. Temps at night are around 23 C(74 F) and it peaks at around 32 C(90 F) during the day time BUT the humidity is very low making it quite nice. In the surrounding country side it's very much cooler. Kanchanaburi and Ubon(the two town that I've been to in the past week) has a low of around 55 F and about the same for Chiang Mia at the moment.

So yes it will be cooler in the higher elevations and expect the temperature with a low of around 35 F at the highest peaks in Thailand. For cities or towns in the mountains expect a low of around 50 at night for December and January.

In my experience, while it is cool at night at the higher elevayions, it is still very warm (typically over 70) during the day.

When we were at Anantara over Xmas a few years ago, it was quite cool. They lit some charcoal fires in the dining room and we frequented the Italian restaurant because it was totally enclosed.

Here in Chiang Mai it was down to 13 last night, though still in the high twenties during the day.

Bangkok has also been quite cool over the last few days.

we spent new years eve 2005 in Mai Hong Sorn and dinner was a BBQ around a bonfire in the ground - beleive me the bonfire was really welcome! it was so cold at night we had to ask for extra blankets. During the day is was 80/85

Just returned yesterday. Warm in Bangkok and Khoa Lak, cool in the mountains of Chaing Rai at Anantara and Phu Chasai. Always had a fire at night in the lounge. Long pants and light layers were sufficient. Warm during the day. Take a jacket and/or warm sweater and possibly a scarf or shawl.
