Apples and Oranges: But can someone compare Bossotel and CP Silom for me?

Bossotel: US$66 for Deluxe Room
Centre Point Silom: US$87 for Studio

(This is for this coming Dec.)

Both are located very near one another and of course the studio comes with a kitchenette etc.

I just wanted to see if anyone here would definitely choose one over the other and why (service, views, location, vibe, breakfast, convenience, furnishing etc.)

I've been to Bangkok lots of times but have only stayed at Khao San/Sukhumvit/Pratunam areas.

This time I'll be there with some family (among which are finicky mum and aunt) and I'm feeling abit stressed with selecting "just the right" hotel for us.

I can pay the US$87 for CP Silom - but would of course wish to pay less if I could.

We need 4 rooms, so the difference in price adds up. (A 2-bedroom apartment at CP Silom is more than 2 x Studio so that option's not under consideration anymore.)

I am leaning towards the Centre Point and am trying to justify why I want to pay more over the Bossotel (which would serve just as well...or would it?)

Some opinions would help. Thank you!

Have stayed at Bossotel. Had to look CP Silom up. Now I have, I see it's that multi-story edifice opposite where the bus from the airport drops you off.

I thought Bossotel was fine and I didn't pay $66usd for a room.

The pool is tiny - a plunge pool rather than a lap pool. But it's closer to the Skytrain. And kettle in the room.

Why would you want a kitchenette?

Centerpoint Silom has gotten excellent reviews from many Fodorites. It is a serviced apartment, so you do get extra space as well as a kitchenette.

The Bossotel has gotten very mixed reviews, ranging from afterall's "fine" to I'd never stay there again. It's perhaps a 2 star place.

If you have a finicky mum and aunt, I'd opt for the Centerpoint SIlom.

And Janna, you get what you pay for.

The words 'finicky Mum' and '$66 a night' don't really belong in the same sentence.

I have not stayed at either one, so up front I cannot comment on the actual facilities. I AM, however, a person who stays in serviced apartments rather than hotels. I've stayed at the "best" (the Peninsula and the Oriental) hotels and have now moved into apartments. I like having the extra space! The serviced apartment is cleaned and maintained just as you expect from a hotel room. There is a lobby where you pay your bill, etc. just like in a hotel. Some serviced apartments also include breakfast in their rates.

Your choice... for me, it's be CP.

Both are excellent places to stay with great locations to transportation. The Bossotel Inn is a 3 star hotel not 2 and the Centre Point is 1 star above that. Also CP has just gone through a complete renovation so everything should be fresh looking.

As far as room size the CP studio is 45sqm and the deluxe room is 35, not a great difference but the washing machine in the studio is a nice extra and the kitchen if one is inclined to use it.

The pool at CP while not any nicer is much bigger. Breakfast is better at the Bossotel in my opinion. A Robinson department store is attached to the CP for shopping convenience. Both places are clean and the staff friendly.

Whether it is worth the extra $20 a night to stay at CP only you can decide.

Personally I would stay at the Bossotel even with a finicky mum and aunt.

Thanks for that information Rhkkmk. I had not realized that it closed last May.

Thanks all for your opinions. I am still keen on the Centre Point, but may take a vote from the family (it's their holiday afterall!)

If Robinsons has closed, what is currently in its place?

Also can anyone tell me if the lobby of the Centre Point Silom is on the ground floor of the building?

Thanks again everyone, appreciate your help.

The lobby is on the ground floor and when Robinsons was open, could be accessed direct from their ground floor as well. I thought the pool at CPS was really nice for a city hotel and we were generally the only ones using it. There is also a reasonable Gym at CPS if that makes a difference to anyone and the staff were really first rate. Our main reason for staying there were the 1 bedroom apartments that had a pull out couch that our 2 kids found to be really adequate so if part of the touring party are under 16, it may be worth factoring this in....ample room for 4.

I was at Centre Point Silom 2 weeks ago and there was no indictation that Robinson was closing. It was well stocked and very much business as usual. I know there is another Robinson on Silom so I'm not sure if the one next to CP is closed.

Like Stitchintime I was in that Robinsons a couple of weeks ago - business as usual.

Its the one at the top of Silom opposite the Dusit Thani that seems to have closed.

Sorry meant to add - I've stayed at the Centrepoint and liked it - closer to the skytrain than the Bossotel which is in the soi running down to the Peninsula pier. CP are good all round - lately I've been using the one up at Langsuan and like that too but its a bit dearer depending on the time of year.

We stayed at the Center Point in June (Robinson's was very much open) and loved it. The pool was very nice (not as nice as the Marriott - but we had new friends there P-)!) and the room was quite comfortable. Plus the views were great and the location right near the Skytrain made getting around easy. Can't speak to the Bossotel, but I would stay at Center Point again.

I've booked the Centre Point Silom - found a great rate of US$78 on AtSiam.com.

(This is compared to US$87 at HotelTravel and US$95 at AsiaHotels. Sawasdee has no rate for Dec and offered me something else when I tried booking anyway).

They require pre-payment upon room confirmation. The confirmation and voucher came within 24 hours. So everything seems good at this point (fingers crossed).

I'm sure we'll enjoy our stay there. Thanks again, everyone.

Janna - I've used At Siam a number of times ( several when booking Centrepoint properties ) and they have been great - really helpful and no problem at checkin.

Just so you know - Centrepoint takes a hold over an amount of money (this changes with length of stay and seems to go down a lot if you have stayed with them before) on your credit card or demands cash deposit upfront. This is against breakages bills etc. Most hotels I've used have only asked for a card imprint rather than processing an amount against the card. We have no problem with them and they cancelled it on checkout but please be aware they do this - should you only have a small limit on the card and need to do other shopping you could find your credit tied up.

First stay for us was 12 nights and we had a hold taken of about $1000 which seemed a bit extreme. This was despite the full bill having been paid through At Siam so it was only to cover breakage etc not the room bill. Subsequent stays have been much less and at the Langsuan property last long stay it was only a couple of hundred. I've heard others say that they've asked for $200 in cash for just a couple of nights when no card was used. Again no problem getting it back but with a number of you thats a fair bit of cash tied up. You could email the hotel direct for this information if its an issue.

Still I guess we could have trashed the place and maybe thats happened too often for them.

Mary, thanks so much for the warning on the hold amount. I needed to know that and will factor that in accordingly.

Not to keen to cough up large amounts (we have 4 rooms!) but will not argue about it if they really asked for it since your experience assured that there'd be no problems voiding the transaction upon checkout.

Thanks again!
