Anyone Seen the Movie "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"?
Takes place in Jaipur and is now widely distributed in the USA. We will try and see it in the next couple of weeks, I think.

We saw it last week Craig and just loved it. I dont think it was shot in Jaipur, it could have been anywhere in India really, but none the less one of the best and funniest movies we have seen in a long time. It ran here for two weeks and each show was pretty much sold out.

Everyone is raving about the film. Seeing it tomorrow. Some of the street scenes were shot in Jaipur, but most of the hotel scenes were shot on location at Rawla Khempur, a palace hotel about an hour north of Udaipur.

We thought the acting was excellent as the phothrapgy was quite good but the story line was thin. That is why it has only generated limited revenue compared to other films that were not nearly as well acted. I would give it a B+.

There is a thread in the lounge about it with almost all thumbs up.
http://www.fodors.com/community/fodo...gold-hotel.cfm I went to see it on a Monday night-the theatre was full and it got a standing ovation at the end. |
It's been out in the UK for a while and I kept meaning to go and see it. It's got a stellar British cast . Will have to wait till,DVD release now as its finished in most cinemas near me. Be interested on your take on it Craig.

it is very entertaining... K and I were laughing out loud and the woman in front of us turned around ans asked why we were laughing so much... it is so "india" in every way.
we did like the other movie, 'outsourced', even better.. |
Agree with StanKase in all respects.
A fun idea, and great cast. I enjoyed it , but wouldn't rush to see it again. guess my expectations were too high. |
Will watch Outsourced on my Kindle Fire. Sounds like Exotic Marigold is worth seeing on the big screen...
|
We enjoyed the movie, but I liked outsourced even more. We thought movie took place in both Jaipur and udaipur.
|
Thanks for bringing it to my attention :)

I am embarrassed to say that we did not view this movie until this evening. Since this post I have upgraded my TV to a 55" plasma to go with the awesome surround sound system that I already had. And so it looked and sounded great - wonderful love stories taking place in one of my favorite countries...
Also thought "Outsourced" was a terrific flick but this one was the better "date" movie. |
Thanks for your review, Craig. It's in our netflix queue
|
it was actually the story of my indian life experiences
|
My husband and I both loved The Best Exotic Msrigold Hotel-- yes, it was a great feel-good type film, but so thoroughly fun to watch, and what a great cast! I did enjoy Outsourced as well, but still found the first movie more entertaining. Both have whetted my appetite for our trip - a mere 3 months away now!

Hoping it will be one of the film choices on my flights tomorrow. It sounds like my kind of movie, even though I've never been to India.

Carol: It's on DVD.
I saw the film 3 times in two weeks, but at the movie theater several months ago. First, I saw it alone. Then I suggested that my best friend see it and she wanted me to come along. Then I suggested that another friend/coworker see it, so we ended up going straight to the theater after we got off work. Then as a gift, my best friend gave me the soundtrack which is great. And she took her neighbor to see it. And the friend/coworker took a friend to see it. We could all probably recite some of the lines from the film by now. Happy Travels! |
Oddly, it arrived in the mail for me today! A late birthday gift. It was on one of my flights last week (JFK-LAX?), but I fell asleep before the title even appeared.
I just finished it, and loved it! |
