Anyone keen on Keens?
Shoes are a favorite topic (well, one of MY favorite topics, anyway!), so I'd like to ask another question about them. I posted this on the Europe board, too, to see if anyone had tried them, but would Keen sandals be good for a trip to Asia? They seem like a good hiking sandal that would very much protect your feet (on a short trek, for instance), but would also be comfortable in the city for sight-seeing.
Here's the pair I'm thinking about (they're on sale at a store near where I live) - they're kind of ugly :-) Any experience with them? http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/9723359/c/4202.html |
Oh Karen, now I will definitely be able to spot you when we meet! I will look for the lady with the ugly shoes! :-)
Actually, I was thinking of getting a pair as well. My best friend LOVES her pair and I don't think my Tevas will offer the support for day trekking. Let me know if you end up buying a pair. Cheers! Tamara |
hi, i have 5 pairs of keens!
i brought a pair of those keen h20s (same as the ones you are thinking but mine are water resistant) and a pair of keen taos (see link below) to china and they worked great. i wore the taos on the great wall hike (as well as on hikes in yosemite) and i find them really stable and the most comfy hiking shoes i've ever worn. http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7195981.html as you can see, i am a big fan ;-) |
I tried them on at Dick's Sporting Goods - found them quit comfortable - BUT I only had them on for a few minutes (no socks - I cheated) and my feet were already starting to feel a bit sweaty. Quimbymoy - do you wear (aarrgghh!) SOCKS with them? If not, do your feet sweat a lot in them?

i don't wear socks with the H2O sandals, but i do with the taos. i wear wool hiking socks (i love smartwool) so they breathe pretty well. although i have to admit that once i got my taos wet, they had a tendency to make my feet really stink! yikes...

I ended up buying a pair of orange (my favorite color) Keen Venice H20 sandles. I have been wearing them around the house for the past week and they are extremely comfortable! I raved about them so much that my boyfriend ended up buying a pair.
Cheers! Tamara |
I took a pair of Keens to India this fall and loved them. They were very comfy and sturdy.

I'm looking for feedback on the Keen Venice H2s. Tamara, or anyone who's tried them out, let me know if you think they would be good for Angkor Wat and around BKK. I know I've asked this in few places, so sorry for being repetitive. Just looking for as much feedback as possible, since I'm thinking about buying a pair today or tomorrow while I can still get 20% off at REI :)

Keens seriously rock.
Comfy and great protection for all terrain. They do get kinda stinky after awhile though... Lloyd |
Don't think they are sold in Singapore. I've got a pair of Cros recently though. http://shop.crocs.com/pc-18-4-island...ction=products |

LA, I wore my Keens almost every day while I tromped around Thailand and Seam Reap. They are very comfortable, cool and sturdy.
I have always worn Tevas but I was happy to have the extra toe protection. I tend to be a clutz. :-) I will say that they get pretty smelly. |
Smelly, huh?! Were you able to wash them when you got home and if so, did it help?
|
i took my insoles out and soaked them in a light bleach solution and they haven't reeked again.... yet! try that. i also soaked in baking soda solution but that didn't work to unstnk them.
|
I threw them in the washing machine when we got home and they don't seem to stink right now but I haven't had the chance to wear them due to the typical Portland springtime rain!
The sun is shining this week so I will let you know in a few days! |
Cool, thanks!

I too have had my eye on a Keens for a while. This thread has been so convincing I have decided to join the club and order a pair of the Venice H20s.
Do they run true to size? |
I found that the 8.5 was perfect for me, which is my regular size. However, reading the reviews on Zappos.com, it seems most people find them a half size too small. If you have an upscale sporting goods store near you (such as REI), you could go and try them on in person.
|
There is a huge selection at The Walking Store- a chain store. I id go up a half size. Meg

The great thing about shoe outlets like zappos.com is that they have free returns on shoes. I bought another pair of Taos in exactly the same size and color but they fit differently than my other ones. So the free return was a bonus.
