Anyone in Bangkok in February?

I'll be passing through Bangkok several times in February, and wondered if any Fodorites would be around and would like to meet for a drink or a meal.

Dates are: Jan 30 (OK, not quite Feb!)
Feb 6, 7, 8, and part of 9 (leaving on night train)
Feb 17
Feb 26, 27, and part of 28 (fly out very early Mar 1)

I have lousy net access for the next four nights, but will try to check this thread.

If I hadn't been lured by the possibility of the Love Boat next winter, we'd be there this February, thursday. SOB.

rhkkmk Jan 11th, 2011 08:53 AM

it would be worth the trip just to fly out to meet up with you and get first hand reports on every nook and corner of SEA

I wish...

Just got back from BKK a week ago. Not going again until April. Would love to put yet another name and face together from the Asia forum 'members.' Maybe another time...

Marija Jan 11th, 2011 11:30 AM

You'll just have to lasso the pooch, thursday. He's still running around Asia, though his plans to join you in Sri Lanka fell through.

thursdaysd Jan 13th, 2011 10:02 PM

Pity...

Bob - I thought you might show up with the palanquin and bearers you promised back in September... But no need to be sarcastic.

Carole - this is my first visit to Bangkok since 2004, before I found fodors, I'm thinking I may have to check out the Pickled Liver this time.

Marija Jan 14th, 2011 05:07 AM

thursday--I assume you're part of this, if not you may want to contact Hanuman:

Actually I am having brunch with other Fodorites on the Jan 30th so please let me know if you are interested in joining us. My email is [email protected]

thursdaysd Jan 15th, 2011 10:14 AM

Marija - thanks for the info. No, that's the first I heard of it, but I get in the middle of the afternoon, too late for brunch.

ravenraven72 Jan 15th, 2011 09:13 PM

I may be there on some of your dates. PL will be on my agenda.

How will we know you? Any major facial scars or other obvious distingusihing features:)

thursdaysd Jan 16th, 2011 03:41 AM

No visible scars, lol. Glasses, English accent with American phrasing, red/orange hair if I've had it hennaed lately. How about you?

SueHuml Jan 16th, 2011 04:44 AM

From Phuket Marriott Beach Club
We return to BKK on the 30th, but not 'till mid afternoon. I think that Hanuman has a Fodors GTG for brunch on the 30th. We are there until Feb 4th, so it seems we just miss you. Will you be at the PL evening of 30th?

thursdaysd, like you, i will be in and out of bangkok in feb. but i will have a few days in feb. for a gtg. feb. 26 or 27 would be good for me. sue, will you and vince be in town then?

btw, not to change the subject, but looking for a nice $60-$80/night hotel on pattaya beach road. going with friends, so they want to stay there. no choice for me.

SueHuml Jan 18th, 2011 02:21 AM

Not back to BKK until afternoon of Jan 30th
Sue

SueHuml - Not sure I'll make it to PL on Jan 30ty, but will keep it in mind.

kuranosuke - I get in around lunchtime on Feb 26th - could do evening on the 26th or anytime on the 27th.

kuranosuke Jan 18th, 2011 07:44 AM

ok, evening of the 26th, anyplace.

thursdaysd Jan 20th, 2011 01:47 AM

Agreed - the 26th. Dinner? I haven't been in Bangkok since 2005, so will defer to more recent knowledge regarding location. Good Thai food at moderate price would be nice.

kuranosuke Jan 21st, 2011 06:17 PM

ok, dinner at 6:30pm at lemongrass on sukhumvit, soi 24. i think you can use the bts, and get off at asoke or phrom phong station.

i've been there several times with other fodorite friends, as well as thai friends. i like it so much, that i've gone there two days in a row at one time. lol.

i'm not sure its thai food, but to me, it seems like thai food, and most important, i like it. perhaps our resident real thai food expert from the east coast of the usa can provide his assessment of the authenticity of the thainese of the food. maybe even provide a restaurant recco?

others in town are welcome to join us. just let me know so i can adjust the reservation.

thursdaysd Jan 23rd, 2011 06:41 PM

Sounds great. I'll put up a GTG notice when I get better net access.
