Anyone heard of a 6 star hotel in Asia??

Has anyone heard of a 6 star hotel?

I saw the end of a special on the Discovery Channel a few years back about the only 6 star hotel in the world, somewhere in Asia I think. Has anyone heard of this?
Supposedly it's (or was) the only one in the world.

I believe you are referring to the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai. It is shaped like a giant sail, and is very easily recognizable in a photograph.

It's in Dubai, but it's a growing trend to call super-luxury hotels 6-star. There's a villa in Italy with this designation and several others around the world.

Theoretically, anyone can say they are a 5, 6, or 7 star hotel. The only thing that matters is the organization bestowing the honor. Unless it is someone like Michelin, or Mobil, I wouldn't buy off the on claim.

Heck, every pizza place in New York claims to have been voted "The best Pizza in New York."

That sounds ridiculous to me. I stayed at Singita Private Game Reserve in South Africa, which for two years running has been voted the top destination in the world by Conde Nast Traveler yet it makes no attempt to define itself as a 6* or 7* hotel! Despite its hefty pricetag of about $1500, the very down-to-earth management still acts modestly when you mention just how wonderful the hotel is and how it deserves its ranking by the magazine as the top destination in the world.

Like the other poster said, anybody can call themselves the best in the world. There is a hamburger place down the street from me that beneath their name on their sign claims the best hamburgers in the world. Well, after having a hamburger from there, I found them to be so "great" that I will never eat there again!
