Any restrictions on taking fresh fruit into China?

Can anyone tell me if there are any restrictions on travellers taking fresh fruit (specifically, apples) into China? We will be visiting our son there shortly, and we would like to take some crisp, new-season's apples with us.

Plenty of crisp new season Apples available in China. Saw boxes of them when I was there recently.

No, you can't bring in fresh fruit.

China is a major exporter of apples. There's no shortage.

Thanks.

I am stuck for a suitable reply, rkkwan! That is about as close to heresy as you can get in New Zealand!
