Any Problems with this Thailand, Laos, Cambodia Itinerary?
 

We are in the process of trying to get FF tickets into Bangkok and out of Phnm Penh for next Jan./Feb. We would spend some time in Bangkok, take a train to Phitsanulok, spend 2 nights there, and then take the train to Chiang Mai. We would posibbly visit Chiang Rai, return to Chiang Mai and fly on Laos Airlines to Luang Prabang. After a few days in Luang Prabang take Laos Airlines to Siem Reap and after a few days, the bus to Phnom Penh. From Phnom Penh we would fly home on Korean Airlines, etc.

Does this seem like a good plan? Any Problems?

The general plan seems ok. A couple of things to consider: first, make sure you have enough time in each place to have a real experience of the place, the people and the culture. Don't spend all of your time in transit. I would recommend at least four nights (to give you three full days) in both Siem Reap and Luang Prabang. Many people report that a day and a half or two days is enough for Phonm Penh. Decide what kind of experience you want in northern Thailand, as this will help you decide where to spend your time.

Also, make sure that the flight between Chiang Mai and Luang Prabang works for you, depending on the time of the year, it may not fly every day.

As Kathie says - sounds fine in practice but make no assumptions about what goes where when.

What is the total length of your trip?

Thanks for the responses. Our trip is 28 days assuming we can get the flight home we want, otherwise may be a little shorter. I've contacted the Eddie in Bankgog who is mentioned often here to get the current days of the the Laos Airline flights. The schedule for the time we will be there won't be out until Sept./Oct. but I'm assuming it will be the same. Maybe not a good assumption! Everything is so dependent upon these flights that I'm a little concerned. Of course, we may not get the flight out of PP.

It's Bangkok of course!

what international flight flies out of PP??---overseas that is not local asia...

As an alternative to flying to Luang Prabang from Chiang Mai, have you considered taking the boat downriver from Chiang Khong (near Chiang Rai) to LP. It takes around 2 days and peolple genarally staying 1 night in Pakbeng. as you have mentioned trains and buses in your post it sounds as though you might enjoy a furtehr mode of transport! We are taking this trip next week and have previously travelled to the far north of Laos by boat from Luang prabang - the scenery is spectacular.

Depends what you call international flights. No flights direct to Europe or North America but Eva, Korean and Asiana air fly out of Phnom Penh to their respective hubs and onward to international destinations.

Thank all of you for your replies. Unfortunately, we are unable to get back home from either PP or Bangkok with FF miles. The PP flight was with Korean Airlines and only flies a few days per week (thurs. and Sun., and maybe one other day). We've gone to plan B, into Belize City and out of Guatemala City!
