You must not leave home without your passport, money, credit cards, and prescription drugs. That is all that you must not forget. Start there and you have a chance of actually packing light.
I pack by first deciding which bag I want to use. Then I get out everything I want to take. Then I put the least needed things back (in the closet, drawer) until what I have left fits in the bag. |

I was trying to delete my packing advice in order to focus on packing light. Of course, when I bring out the bag the ball gown is already in it from the last trip, so can't be forgotten.

Look at onebag.com .I pressed the send button too soon as it occurs to me that if you are planning to visit temples you need to ensure you have long sleeved shirts , long skirts or trousers or sarongs / sashes to cover up .Guide books outline it all .You may be happy to buy things to wear .

There is a very good chance that you will be bringing back much more than you take. We always bring an empty duffel bag in anticipation of packing our purchases for our return.
Bring socks, at the temples you will be shoeless. |
An empty suitcase is #1 on my list.
We all have different approaches. I, for one, can't imagine wearing socks at the temples. And I stay somewhere in Bangkok where they do all of my laundry for free, so no detergent. And the ballgown is not de riguer for me, but the tiara is. One other thing - make sure you call all of your credit card companies and the bank that issues your ATM card to tell them where you will be. Also, get the number to call from a foreign country (collect) if there are problems with your card. |
the bank thing is a MUDT DO

If you really want to travel light, then you can buy an inexpensive duffel to carry your purchases home.

Im so glad I asked the question, I would have forgotten the gown and tiara for sure! hahah
What is the proper male/female dress for the temples? |
Proper dress for temples is no shorts - long pants or a knee-length skirt, shoulders and upper arms covered (a half-length sleeve is fine, a cap sleeve is not), for the Grand Palace, you must have shoes or sandals with a heel strap, no flip=flops.
