any cooking class in hong kong?

I am going to travel to Hong Kong with my wife in August. Both my wife and myself love cooking and always look for a cooking class in a local. Does anyone know is there any cooking class available out there in Hong Kong? Thanks.

I spent a whole day in 2008 cooking and learning with Martha Sherpa in Mong Kok. You can contact her at: marthasherpa.com

Her school is easy to reach, right off the subway. There were two other Americans in our class. We cooked three entrees, then Martha demonstrated three more. About 4:00 p.m. she took us to the wet market a couple of blocks from her school. We spent another hour and a half looking at all the food, wandered in the stores. It was a fabulous experience, but not one of those cutesy, everyone drinking white wine kind of deals. You will work, but you will learn a lot.

For cooking lessons, the YWCA on MacDonnell Road often offers classes. See http://www.esmdywca.org.hk and click on “Classes” to see their cooking classes; and also see their “Local Culture” section where they sometimes offer a local wet market tour and a tour of Chinese medicine shops linked to medicinal soups. Jason Wordie, an excellent local author and tour guide, has market walks (not cooking lessons, but still interesting), you might look at his website to see if any of his walks interest you, see www.jasonswalks.com. The Hong Kong gas company (Town Gas) offers courses that are supposed to be good, but I am not sure that this is what you are looking for, see http://www.towngascooking.com/eng/course/course.asp. A poster on this board has recommended Coriander Connections (see http://www.corianderconnections.com/index.html) these look very interesting although I have not taken any. The Penninsula Hotel has a cooking acadamey, with its chefs as instructors, see Penninsula.com. It is my understanding that restaurants like Lung King Heen at the Four Seasons (3 Michelin star Cantonese fusion) and Bo Innovation (2 Michelin star Asian fusion) will provide private cooking lessons for a fairly steep price, you might contact your hotel concierge or the restaurants directly, see http://www.fourseasons.com/hongkong/ and http://www.boinnovation.com/

I should mention that when I phoned the HK gas company to enquire about cooking classes, at that time they were seeking groups of ten, not individual students.

Cooking class in Hong Kong by Home's Cooking (www.homescookingstudio.com) may be a good option for you if you are looking for a simple half day tour which to bring you a touch to local people life about what they eat, how they pick the freshest ingredient from wet market and how they cook it in their home style.

Following an article from New York Times about an introduction to hong kong wet market and a few cooking courses available in hong kong is worth for you to take a look too.

Generally cooking classes covers only recipes of various dishes. They don't teach the best ways of presentation and new tools and techniques in teaching which are an important aspect in cooking. If you are interested to learn each and everything related to cooking, then it would be better to go for culinary arts program. It wouldn't be difficult also as these courses are available online also that to from very good universities. Online course wouldn't affect your regular works also. Following site has the complete list of such universities.
http://www.culinaryartscollege.org/
After completing the course you can become a trained chef knowing everything about cooking.
