Any Birders Out There?

I have a trip booked to Thailand in January 2003 to Bangkok and Krabi (Ao Nang). Has anyone any tips on good birding places or island trip recommendations.

Thanks, Wayne

The Sam Roi Yot national park just south of Hua Hin has over 300 species. Excellent birdwatching and a famous wetlands area. In the busy tourist areas it is almost impossible to do any decent watches but the Sam Roi Yot park is excellent. Ao Nang is already developed and they have built all along the beach area, also beer-bars and the like.

We enjoyed our stay at Dolphin Bay Resort, south of Sam Roi Yot, very much. We went to stay three nights and didn't leave for a week and then only because it was time to come back to the states.
It is in an ideal location for birdwatching. The park being 4-5 km.
to the south, the freshwater marsh 15 km.to the north, and the beach right there where you can see dolphins.
We added 32 birds to our list just in that area. Common, collared, white-throated, and black-capped kingfishers are beautiful and quite numerous. In the marsh we saw the purple and the grey heron.
Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Bronze-winged Jacana,Black-winged Stilt,and
Purple Swamphen to name just afew.
The Khao Daeng Canal boat trip is very relaxing also. Beautiful mountain vistas, birds among the mangroves, and monkeys in the trees.
We are going to the Krabi area in Sept., I will let you know what we see there when we return.
I agree, it's an excellent location for birdwatching. Even if it's not your hobby it is so relaxing and makes a great change from the beach. An excellent excursion from Hua Hin to Dolphin Bay and the Sam Roi Yot National Park. ? Did you get to see the Pink Dolphins?

Yes, we saw dolphins from the Dolphin Inn Restaurant.
Has anyone been to Libong National Marine Park off Trang? I read there are a lot of winter migrants there.
