anti maleria tablets needed for bali??
hi
can people help, are anti malerial tablets needed for bali, as i have been given conflicting advise (and my drs are not that helpful either when i ask them) |
The last time I checked (which was about 5 years ago) only the very rural parts of Bali were threatened by malaria.
Where are you going? You should be able to do some research of your own online specific to the regions you will be in. The travel Drs. never seem to have zone-by-zone info but offer good general info about specific islands. |
Bali becomes mosquito island when dark. If you don't take tablets, shut your doors and windows at twilight then have a good spray around with some insecticide.
Bali is only a "small" island and there is little distance between town and country. |
See www.cdc.gov/travel/regionalmalaria/seasia.htm
Also look for a travel clinic/doctor in your area. I think I took malaria tablets for Bali, but I was already taking them for other places in SEA. |
Do read the cdc website carefully. They say "no risk in the main resort areas of Bali." But look carefully at where you are going. Lombok is a malarial risk area. Do take usual precautions such as repellant and sleeping under a mosquito net if you are not staying in an ac room.
Travel docs in the US use the cdc info. There is an updated cdc website, but it is still be beta tested. It should be available for general use soon. |
Bali is low risk for malaria...but that's low, not no risk. I personally know someone who got malaria in Bali a couple of years ago. Still, the CDC doesn't recommend prophylactic medication for Bali. It would be very wise to use proper precautions against bites, though, as there are other diseases spread by mosquitos...Japanese Encephalitis is not uncommon there, and Dengue Fever is quite common with this year being an especially bad Dengue year, with many cases and some deaths too.

thankyou everyone for the assistance, i appreciate it
