Another Japanese Gift Giving Question

While I am in Tokyo I am going to take advantage of their "Home Visit" Program. I bought a few little mementos from my city to give as a gift to the family (since I heard that it is polite and proper) and I was just wondering if I have to wrap those up? I was reading through other posts and noticed that someone mentioned that gifts should be wrapped. Thanks.

The wrapping and presentation is of equal or greater importance than the actual gift. Knock yourself out!

Yep, what they said. And gifts from your hometown are especially nice and appreciated. Don't feel bad if you receive gifts that are nicer or more expensive. Also dont rip the wrapping off the gift like a kid on Christmas morning lol
