Another Hong Kong Hotel question

We are stopping over in Hong Kong in May at the end of our next dive trip. When we were there last November we stayed at the Eaton Smart on the recommendation of friends. It fit our needs just fine and the price was right, though it got pretty cozy with all our dive gear in a small room. I am debating whether to go back again, or to find a hotel on HK Island this time. Unlike some of the other hotels mentioned on recent posts, I would like to keep the price under $200 USD. The Eaton early bird is approx. $150, room only, but with wi-fi. Is there a hotel anyone can recommend elsewhere that has modern rooms, in a fun and different part of HK, that would be a similar price? We will be there 5 nights. Thanks.

What dates in May? Have you looked at some booking sites for some probably properties? Also, don't expect the rooms to be larger.

11-16 May. I have looked at various sites. I don't expect the rooms to be bigger, but would prefer updated to drab and old if possible. Because we did not spend enough time on HK Island, I am less familiar with the areas, so was hoping for some guidance there as the booking sites aren't giving me the info I feel would help. We did a lot of walking and didn't go out much at night since we were tired, so this time I would like a hotel more conducive to getting out to some fun and tasty restaurants, though not dressy, since we won't have anything nice to wear.

There's quite a few that meets your budget.
The Imperial Hotel at Tsim Sha Tsui HK$855 a night. Good location.

Thanks KML. What I was wondering was if anyone had actually in any of the hotels in this price range and if there was a real standout amongst them. BTW, YMCA is full, so not that one.

Oops. That was supposed to say STAYED in any of them.

Thank god, hotel rates for those dates have come down a bit from the recent ridiculous level. From asiahotels.com, you can get several new ones on HK Island for under $200 a night, like:

- Regal iClub. $159. Brand new hotel in Wan Chai
- L'Hotel Causeway Bay $159
- Metropark Causeway Bay $140
- East Hotel $199. Nice property, though a few MTR stops further east from Causeway Bay
- Butterfly on Wellington. $179. Small boutique hotel in Central.
- Holiday Inn Express. $179. Very convenient, right next to the Times Square mall in Causeway Bay

None of the above should be drab and old.

We stayed at Bishop Lei last winter. Rooms are small, but were recently updated. Great wi-fi as I recall. Clever use of the small space. And we loved this location - up the escalators - near the Soho? section. Many, many restaurants up there to choose from. Seemed like a happening area for young professionals. We'd stay there again if we went back.

Great. I will those out, rkkwan. Glover, I was wondering whether that one was any good, so thanks for chiming in.

If you want to spend your time on HK this time, it's still really easy from Tsim Sha Tsui. We went to HK every day and every night from the YMCA hotel. It's just as close as Causeway Bay, although you have to take the ferry (which is fun). My only point is you can stay either place and still "do" HK.
