Enjoy! We will see you in a few weeks. Getting ready to fly today.

hawaiiantraveler Nov 2nd, 2015 08:44 AM

The pastry shop in the basement (across You and Me) of the Hyatt is incredible but at a Hyatt price. Linda loves their chocolate croissants in the morning but then again don't think Linda has met a chocolate croissant she doesn't like :)

My guess is that Bob waited in the ac sitting on a bench in the OP Place while Karen went for the rice bag haha. I would have waited with you Bob and Linda and Karen would have gone but taken much longer so maybe your lucky we are not there lol. Great report so far keep it coming. Can't wait to have chocolate croissants in VN!

Aloha!

Bob forgot to mention the beautiful and delicious shrimp on a hot plate we also had with our dinner. The driver last night took us north to the bridge near China town. It avoids that Silom/ Satorn area and the Takin bridge, but it also gave us a nice tour of the lights in China town at night.

Sad to leave this lovely suite. The wrap around balcony is sooooo nice in the AM for having coffee on..

rhkkmk Nov 2nd, 2015 03:34 PM

In the middle of the night I remembered about the shrimp--- they were very large and delicious and a bargain at 220B for 8 on a sizzling platter.

We are hoping Linda will chose the best VN food for us and together we will select the biggest and best chocolate croissants and Peter you and I will have some pastry breaks....

We have made the move... Very slow taxi along sukhumvit, and a dumb driver.

Needless to say the room is small, but ok---hey it is free.

Expect a quiet day tomorrow before we fly to CM on Thursday---oh, maybe we should take the train......... NOT A CHANCE.

tengohambre Nov 3rd, 2015 04:29 AM

"Needless to say the room is small...."

Nothing a few small ants couldn't solve.
Go to it.

kmkrnn Nov 3rd, 2015 02:29 PM

But I used up my supply in the Anatara

rhkkmk Nov 3rd, 2015 03:34 PM

Discovered i left my Bose headphones at. Anantara. Quick call and they were found. Will pick them up tonight when we have to be on that side of town.

Very pleasant dinner last night with Crellston here at You and Mee at the Hyatt. We last met them about 8 years ago when they visited Boston. They are concluding a year long trip in SEA this week so we have tons to hear about. Delicious noodles.

The best ever pastry in our room this AM from the Hyatt bakery. Lunch today will be at the Liu Restaurant at the Conrad hotel. The best dim sum. Dinner tonight will be at himila cha cha off new road-- really good Indian. A big food day.

Does anyone have any suggestions for finding repro furniture, Chinese decorative or Asian, either here in Bkk or in CM???? No t looking for high end, like found at river city.

MrsBillT Nov 3rd, 2015 05:09 PM

We have had dim sum at both the Conrad and the Penn and prefer the offerings at the Penn.

Kathie Nov 3rd, 2015 06:37 PM

Bob, we have some free Hyatt nights and thought about staying at the Grand Hyatt in Bangkok, but decided that by the time we got to Bangkok, we'd just want to settle in somewhere.

Glad you were able to meet up with crellston

Plenty of repro furniture in CM. Enjoy the shopping!

rhkkmk Nov 3rd, 2015 10:54 PM

Great dim sum at Liu as always... Some very unusual dishes. The shrimp/scholop (sp) ones were the best. Two we hatted were the strip of beef (maybe skin and fat) and the pork marrow bones-sent back. < 1800 B... Can have all you can eat for 900 B/pp ++.

Tonight a big taxi swing first to anantara--headphones; then river city for a fitting for K; and finally Indian food on new Rd at himila cha cha.

Both today and for tomorrow we bought pastry in the Hyatt.bakery on LL... Very rich, buttery and delicious.

Flight tomorrow to CM is at 1:05, thai air.

Grand palace still closed...

kmkrnn Nov 3rd, 2015 11:03 PM

Back from our lunch at Liu. While we were there a birthday party for a three year old was being held in one of the private dinning rooms along the side of the main room. It was interesting to watch the family dynamics of the group. Probably 3 generations present. The toddlers and 2 babies each had their own nanny present. If a family member walked a baby ,the baby nanny was only 2-3 steps behind the adult carrying the baby...just in case. When we were leaving ,the toddler had to go number2. The mother and his nanny went with him to the ladies room. As he was sitting on the toilet he was singing a song about poo poo to the tune of twinkle twinkle little star. He evidently was having a problem, because by the time I left the ladies room, one others nanny and the grand mother were there singing poo poo, with him. Is parenting that different over here? Four adults to get 1 little boy to poop?

Not unusual in the Asian countries for the well to do to have maids, nannies, drivers and cooks as labor is very cheap and abundant. Olive had all of these when she was growing up in Manila. Olive had 5 children there and each had their own nanny.
Of course here in the US now I serve as the cook and driver. Life can be a lot easier in Asia if you are well to do.

Bob, you and Karen need to try Indigo restaurant sometime. I'm sure you would enjoy it.

rhkkmk Nov 4th, 2015 04:46 AM

Good dinner..the President of Sri Lanka is staying next door, so lots of traffic around.

crellston Nov 4th, 2015 04:33 PM

Great to meet up with you both the other night. We really enjoyed your company and catching up. Hope you take to Chiang Mai this time! check out Aroon Rai for some great northern Thai curries.

Hope the house moves goes smoothly.

welltraveledbrit Nov 4th, 2015 05:58 PM

Reading your TR makes me want to jump on a plane and join all the fun. last time we were in Bangkok we stayed for twelve days and I really enjoyed seeing the city at a more leisurely pace. Hope you enjoy the rest of the trip and greetings to Hanuman when you see him.

kmkrnn Nov 4th, 2015 07:26 PM

Cellist on...is Carol going to send that Hanoi food list. Looking forward to it. We are at the airport waiting for our plane to CM. we enjoyed seeing you two again also. Let's do it sooner than 8 years next time

rhkkmk Nov 5th, 2015 02:39 AM

T/s/b Carolyn , not carol...

Great flt north to CM, a newish 777. We bought sandwiches in the Hyatt bakery and nibbled on them while waiting in the waiting lounge--chicken Caesar wraps...

K took some laundry next door after we got to the Le Meridien. I took a bit of a nap.

Have decided to eat in the hotel tonight-- Italian.

Tomorrow will be a walk about day looking at shops that have been suggested to us.

BTW, CM looks even uglier than I remembered... Suspect this is not a good sign.

simpsonc510 Nov 5th, 2015 03:59 AM

Hmmm, still not liking CM... perhaps you should have stayed along the Ping River, or maybe Yang Coomb Village?

Try to go on a day trip (or half day) up to Doi Inthanon and that area, if you haven't done it before.
