From where during a cruise stop will be most viable and/or most convenient for a visit to Ankor Wat: Either from Sihanoukville, Cambodia or from Laem Chabang or Ko Samui, Thailand. The cruise will be overnight in those ports.

Do you mean you want to visit Angkor Wat during a one day stop in one of those two spots?
Even if it's possible to get to Siem Reap in that time, I can't imagine you'd have time to see any temples.

An overnight in any of those ports will not get you a chance to see Angkor. WHere does your cruise begin or end? You'll need to add days to fly to and from Angkor and a minimum of three full days there just to see the major temples.

I will have at least a couple of days in the mentioned ports so it will be a private guided tour..... NOT DIY.

Even a couple of days won't do it. From Sihanoukville, Cambodia to Siem Reap is a full day overland each way. From Koh Samui, you'd have to fly to Bangkok, then to SIem Reap and reverse it to get back. The most practical would be Laem Chabang, as it is the port often used to access Bangkok. Still, you'd need to fly from Bangkok to SIem Reap and return. It doesn't matter whether it is DIY or a private guided tour, the transport to and from still takes the same amount of time. Unless you can free up 3 or 4 days in Bangkok, don't expect to be going to Angkor. And if you can free up that much time, it would be easy to DIY.

Again, where does your cruise begin or end? That would be a better way to get to Angkor.

Actually, there are a couple of people over at cruisecritic.com who have done what amounts to an overnight at Siem Reap while cruising. Personally, I think that's ridiculous - you spend a great deal of time and money for just a taste, but it seems it can be done. I had two and half days at Angkor the first time, and had to go back for more, but YMMV.

Thanks so much for the replies..... the cruise is singapore/hong kong or viceversa. I know it will be just a taste of Angkor... but that's better than nothing.
