Angkor Silk Farm?
 

We'll be in Siem Reap for 4 days (booked with a guide to go to the various temples in and around Angkor Wat for three of the days).

I'm planning to bring some silk scarves home for gifts for friends and family, but thought it would be interesting to see how silk is made.

Has anyone been to the Angkor Silk Farm, and if so, what is your opinion of it? From the website, it looks like it could be a thinly-disguised opportunity to sell expensive silk products. Is that correct, or is it an interesting place to visit?

it is not a "a thinly-disguised opportunity to sell expensive silk products." It is a business selling high quality silk products. Their items are beautiful, and do not scream souvenir. We enjoyed seeing how silk is made from the worms to the weaving. Perhaps it's because I used to dye and weave, but I enjoyed it.

Really wanted to go there, but ran out of time. I did go to the Artisans D'Angkor workshop in town, and got to see a number of different processes (wood carving, painting, metal working etc) if you can make it there as well, it's great!

I bought so much (whoops!) I had them ship it home- they said 5-6 weeks, it was at my house in 8 days! In the US! (I of course did not get home for another 12 so, there were a multitude of DHL notices on my door!)

The Angkor Silk farm (Artisans Angkor) offers free guided tours of the process from the mulberry bushes cultivation to the production of silk fabrics and accessories. As the Silk Farm covers an area of 8 hectares, of which 5 are used for the mulberry trees plantation, you will enjoy the beautiful setting while learning about the fascinating process of silk-making.

I would definitely go. There is (or was) a free mini van service from the workshop in town. (Tip obviously appreciated!)
