Angkor guides: Tek???
The highly recommended Ponheary is booked for the time I will be in Siem Reap.
On another forum, I guide named Tek was highly praised. Has anyone used him? |
AskOksana did, recently, and speaks very highly of her. Read her recent three part report ... part 3 refers to Tek

There are a number of guides just as good as Ponheary so don't worry . Here are a few
Veasna (pronounced Vesnu) - Charning guide. He can be contacted at [email protected] or [email protected] John Teng is excellent,. His web site is http://www.angkorservice.com/ Kim Rieng at [email protected] Sokun Men - [email protected] Saron Soeun can be reached at [email protected] and he has a good website at www.sarontours.com |
Are all of Ponheary's guides booked? I used her brother Dara last time I was there, and I thought he was really great.
|
could you ask her to make an exception for you and maybe take those people on other days??
|
We recently visted the Angkor area with Saron and had a great time...I can highly recommend him and his driver. Saron's english is very good and he is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. He paced our tour well and was extremely flexibile. His driver has a very nice Toyota minibus with great AC (a huge plus after hiking around the temples foe a couple of hours) and he was always quick with a ice cold bottle of water and a smile. I think you would enjoy your tour with Saron very much--we did.

Thank you all for your suggestions.
I will contact these other guides to see if they will be able to meet my unique needs. rhkkmk: As I was not pleased with Ponheary's response to my 40 emails, I demanded to speak with her manager. She refused....so I will be contacting her corporate headquarters. |
please try to be a bit patient....that corporate structure is currently under a lot of pressure from one quarter

hi there - can someone provide the contact information for Ponheary? I would like to see if I can contact him/her (?) for our trip in December. Thanks!

We recently used Tek for 3 days in Cambodia. His English is very good and he is a very nice man, however, I found him to be a bit serious and I personally did not enjoy the time with him as much as the time with other guides. We used Tong in Bangkok for the Floating Market & Secret Village and we used a fabulous guide in Chiang Mai ([email protected]) My husband, on the other hand, enjoyed our time with Tek even more than the time we spent with Tong. Tek is very knowledgable and accommodating, however, I personally wanted a bit more time to wander around the sites and savor the moment. I suppose I could have told Tek that I didn't want as much information as he had to offer, but I did not want to be rude. For me personally, he was a bit dry, but like I said - everyone's opinion is different.

I DON'T recommend Kim San. We chose him based on Fodor's forum recommendations, booked with him 6 months in advance, he confirmed with us multiple times prior to the trip that he would be our guide, even a few days before the trip. When we got to Siem Reap, he didn't show but sent a young man instead, who made excuses for him. The guide we did have was ok, but we didn't get Kim San, the guide we had chosen . I consider him untrustworthy.
