An afternoon in Singapore

On our way home to Australia from Europe we will have a wait in Singapore from 1.20pm to 9.15pm on a Saturday in early October.
It sounds like we could get somewhere and see something in that time if we are not too worn out. I am thinking it might be a good strategy to keep the kids (8 and 10) awake for the afternoon to help reset their clocks to Australian time - they can sleep on the flight to Brisbane.
Is it realistic to leave the airport and have fun for that amount of time?
If so, tips for a fun afternoon?
A friend suggested the ArtScience Museum and the shopping mall next door which apparently has an ice skating rink.
Any other ideas for a tired family of 4 to get a taste of Singapore?
Thanks in advance

It is certainly realistic to leave the airport for that amount of time. Singapore is a small city-state, so everything is closeby.

There are so many options of things to do...Many people would recommend the zoo, or perhaps a bumboat ride, plan to go to dinner somewhere - either a sit-down restaurant or a group of Hawker stalls. I love the botanical gardens, but the kids might not be interested.

Go to the zoo - great for a couple of hours or more.

The zoo sounds like fun.
Kathie can you recommend a good place to find some hawker food stalls?

Another vote for the zoo. It is one of the better ones we have been to outside of NY and CA
