Do I need an converter or adapter for my American hair appliances while in Japan where they have 100 voltage? I have an adapter that says N. America and Japan, so it seems like I'm good there. I thought that since they use less voltage than us I would be OK without a converter, but someone said I need one. I don't want to drag anything I don't need to Japan.

Most hotels will have a hair dryer in the rooms. The ones that do not will have ones you can borrow. In my experience (years ago, since I haven't carried a hairdryer in decades) is that hair dryers do not function well with a convertor. Leave your hair dryer at home.

I also need a curler and I will not be staying in a hotel the whole time so I don't want to depend on anyone elses things. I flat don't go out without drying my hair and curling it so I don't want to go with "Most" I need to figure out what I need to take or buy there.

Voltage is closed enough you don't need a converter. And they use the same plug, so no adapter either. Should work fine.

I didn't bring a hair dryer, but my electric razor and battery charger for my cameras, etc., worked just fine. Same plug and similar voltage.

Buy your stuff there. Guaranteed to work. Sure, it's an extra cost, but you consider it essential-to-life equipment, and think of the fun of shopping for something practical.

Take that adapter but you probably won't need it. No converter needed, 100 < 120.

It won't blow up. It is not Sweden (230V). If the hair dryer is dual voltage and you just used it in Sweden then switch it back to 120V before you get to Japan.

Maybe, I am not sure, but maybe your hair dryer won't get as hot in Japan.

Don't buy that stuff there unless you are going to leave that stuff there.
