"Amazing Race" in Central Java
Last week teams went to Yogjakarta.
This Sunday they're going to Borobudur! http://www.cbs.com/shows/amazing_race/ |
we have the DVR programed already.

To see Bobodurur in person is extremly impressive. It is the oldest meaningful Hindu temple. The Mt. Merapi volcano eruption last spring that unfortunately killed some people and discolcated 50,000 people sent ash out 30 miles and a good deal on Bobodurur. Unesco is still in the process of cleaning up several areas in addition to repairing some of the reliefs. This is an 8th Century temple if my memory serves me right. We were there 2 months before the eruption.

Borobudur is a Buddhist monument, the largest Buddhist monument in the world. It isn't a temple - you can't enter it, you climb it. Nor is it the oldest. But it is a wonderfully moving place to visit.

It's a shame that they don't even get the time to take it all in (seems like they never do, no matter where they go on The Amazing Race.) I'd love to go on that show with my better half but I fear we might kill each other from the stress/pressure/competitiveness.

Next on the Amazing Race will be Thailand. I like the show because you get to see many different sights in different countries. Such as the temple - Borobudur- which I find more interesting than Angkor Wat.

Did anyone watch tonight's episode in time to see most of the teams butcher the pronunciation of Phuket? Bucket? Pucket? Well, I guess we can count our lucky stars they didn't use the 'F' version. :)
