Afterall, I consider the acts of elephants deliberate and premeditated rather than accidental! Otherwise, I would have included the bull elelephant that charged us in the middle of our camp in the Selous Game reserve in Tanzania and the one that decided to go for a jog through some trees infested with fire ants when we were in Koh Chang ( I can still feel the bites on my back now! - OK thats a bit of an exageration but they did hurt!)

And Gpanda is one of those people who are Africa experts after a couple of "safaris". Like arrive and ferried to hotel: ferried to airport; guided everywhere. But without doubt, to the people on this board, an expert

Femi-don't worry, pandas are accepting of all other opinions. One wonders how much lurking Afterall has doen to choose to chime in on this thread when he would have so many better opportunities on other threads.
Now to the substance of his remarks. While I am an expert on some things, travel is not one of them. All of my opinions come from my own experience. My suggestions are merely that, suggestions, not directions. One can choose to follow them, ignore them or whatever. I have no emotional attachment to them.
Perhaps Afterall is an accident waiting to happen. The anger is certainly misplaced.

mrwunrfl, you're right, I could have started this thread.
I got off a plane in Mexico City last Nov. and promptly fell down a flight of stairs w/my suitcase, breaking my ankle and 5th metatarsal bone in my foot. I walked on it for 5 days all over the city. Got it casted when I got back. Mara and I have been healing our feet together as our injuries happened at the same time.
Just as the foot healed, I was leaving my Northern VA home to go to Boston in mid-Feb., 5 weeks ago, and as I went to get in the cab for the airport, I hit a sheet of ice on my front step. No idea it was ice, weatherman had predicted rain.
I broke my right wrist in two places, it was pretty deformed. This time I could not ignore it and keep traveling. Had a plate and 9 screws put in the next week. There were so many falls from that ice storm and so many broken bones it took a week to get an open operating room and to get on the surgery schedule!
In spite of the wrist, I drove to Florida for spring break and am going hiking in Sedona in April. It takes a lot to stop me from traveling, but crutches would do it.
And I think I'll stay away from elephants.

emd - you are an accident that's happened already. You made me laugh. Good for you. Not sensible to struggle so, but you did. Hope no ill effects and that you'll be off and away again before long.
As for the elephant - nearly killed me. Number 6 of my nine lives. One other used since.

I've often wondered about the water buffalo. They seem so sweet and tame, and tolerate being tugged on by mere babes.
