Allergies in INdia

My daughter has a severe food allergy to peanuts and peanut products. I have heard that the use of peanut oil and flour is very common in India. Can anyone give me tips for how we can guard against exposure to food containing peanuts on our trip?
Thanks very much for any hep you can give me.

Peanut flour no. Peanut oil is used sometimes. IN large hotels they will advise you. Else avoid Indian food - you get Chinese and Italian at most hotels in India.

Hi Hobbes
Thanks for the advice. It is a shame though because she loves Indian food. Going all the way to India and having to eat Italian is sad. We got hit twice in Australia with peanut oil and it was awful. It is hard when the wait staff don't know what oil is being used.
I guess we will have to take your advice and stick to the large hotels when eating Indian.
Thanks again.

Sorry about your daughter. My daughter has the same problem and had almost died several times because of hidden soy and peanuts in food. Just a warning about curry I read where a woman died in England eating curry dish. She had asked the management if it contained peanuts and they told her no. Apparently they purchased the "curry" spices already mixed and it contained peanuts of some sort and the label did not list this. Good luck. I know what a worry eating can be with this kind of allergy.

It is really frightening. We have lived with it for years so we are extremely careful but it is the hidden stuff that get's you. The chefs often don't have any idea about the oil or what is in the mix they are using. As you know it can also be triggered by transference from a spoon that was used in another dish. We have been caught that way before. We will just be as cautious as possible, bring EpiPens and perscription antihistamines. Thanks for understanding.
