Airports in Bangkok

Does anyone out there have any feedback on flying out of DMK airport vs BKK?

In mid November we are flying to Chiang Mai from Bangkok and flights are available at both airports. How far is DMK from Bangkok and how accessible utilizing public transportation?

Thank you all!

it is right on the highway... best to take a taxi for less than 500 B. the ride is 30-60 minutes.

DMK is a much easier airport to navigate and walk. Only two major low cost airlines operate from there plus a few charter and small airlines. Less waiting time for check-in, luggage and everything else.

There's a train that goes directly to BKK, and crosses two of Bangkok's other main commuter lines, so from that standpoint, it's a little easier to reach if you're traveling light. That said, for domestic flights, I kind of like DMK, even though it's 'harder' to get to for me.

The price being the same I prefer Suvarnabhumi. (BKK.) During the day you can use the Skytrain to connect with the Airport Rail Link.

Some tourists fly into Suvarnabhumi and think they can almost immediately go from there to Don Muang. Don Muang is almost on the other side of the city from Suvarnabhumi.

If you are leaving from a hotel in Bangkok there is no real problem getting to Don Muang. Meter taxis go there every day. Rough price (using the meter only, including tolls) depending on hotel location - maybe 250 - 400 baht. Some of the airlines using Don Muang may have lower weight allowances than when using other major airlines. Know the weight limits you are allowed for carry on and the check in bag. When you exceed their weight limits you pay more.

There is a shuttle that connects DMK and BKK. There now are some buses from DMK that take passengers to other parts of the city for Skytrain connections or where some passengers can even walk to hotels. This bus does not run all night long!

Up to you.
